Willow is a founding member and CEO of Safeguarding Children. What started as an idea over a cup of coffee and hundreds of hours of voluntary time at the start has turned into a leading provider of safeguarding training a consultancy in New Zealand, and the leading provider of online training.
Willow came to New Zealand from the UK in 2009 with her husband, two children and the family dog. You may be surprised to learn that Willow has worked as a nurse, Specialist Community Nurse Practitioner (UK Health Visitor) and midwife for over 30 years. Both nursing and midwifery professions have a strong foundation in advocacy. When partnered with post-graduate child protection study and hard-hitting frontline experience, the result was a brave and determined advocate for children and those who are vulnerable. Willow believes that maintaining her nursing registration ensures she is driven by the core qualities, code of conduct, values, and standards of the profession in her role as CEO of Safeguarding Children.
Willow believes that mobilised and empowered communities hold the key to keeping children and young people safe, and that we all have a vital role to play. She is passionate that people demand the same standards of care that they expect for their own children to other peoples children when they are in their care. Other people’s children matter!

Most recently, John supported the directed the work of the UCA in responding to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, and then developed the Uniting Church’s National Safe Church Unit, supporting and resourcing the Church to be the best it can be in ensuring the Church is indeed a safe place for all.
John is married to Alison, who has launched a training organisation for young people living with disability.
John is dad to Jasmin an amazing young woman living with disability charting her course in the world, and Isaak, an awesome young man who after finishing school is seeking to engage in supporting people to live their best life.
John enjoys the open road on his Harley Davidson and watching live sport (his playing days are far behind him with knees that do not work so well anymore).

Skye Rose is a Practice Leader in the Corporate Advisory Team at Moores, where she leads the workplace relations and child safety teams. Moores is a ‘values driven’ law form with the tag line ‘here for good.’
Skye was named the Law Institute of Victoria’s Government Lawyer of the Year in 2015 following her success in several high-profile discrimination cases. In 2016, Skye was appointed to the Independent Advisory Board for Victoria Police, where she provides strategic advice on sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and predatory behaviour in Victoria Police.
Skye works predominately with independent school clients in the areas of child safety, privacy, discrimination, and employment relations. She has extensive experience in preventing and responding to concerns about child abuse and providing redress in line with the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
When Skye is not busy being a lawyer, you might find her reading in her hammock or dancing on stage as part of her dance troupe.

Peter Downs
Peter Downs is currently National Manager of Play by the Rules, a joint initiative of Federal and State governments to keep community sport safe, fair, and inclusive. Peter has a 30-year career in sport at a national level, for much of that time specialising in issues of inclusion and diversity, complaint handling, sport integrity and child safety. Peter is former Manager of the Australian Sports Commission’s Disability Sport Unit for 17 years and Assistant Director of the ASCs Integrity Unit for 2 years. He has a Masters Degree in Adapted Physical Activity and in 2014 was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study models of good practice in inclusive sport and physical activity, particularly for people with high support needs, in Finland, the UK and US. He is also co-Founding Director of The Inclusion Club – a health promotion charity that shares models of good practise around inclusion and diversity in sport from across the world.

Kim is a Safeguarding and Child Protection Consultant who has moved from the UK to New Zealand. Since being in New Zealand, Kim has supported both of New Zealand’s main child protection charities and YMCA. Phillip Doorgachurn
Phil is the National Executive for Safeguarding at the YMCA of Australia as well as the Director of Safeguarding in Sport at LimeCulture. Phil has a long history in safeguarding and sport, as an undergraduate, Phil published his research ‘Narratives of Abuse in Sport’. For this cutting-edge research, Phil was awarded the British Olympic Foundation Award. Phil has a statutory background within the police managing youth diversion schemes for children affected by gangs and also holds an education qualification where he taught disadvantaged young people for a number of years.
Phil worked within the training and consultancy unit at the NSPCC for several years supporting individuals and organisations to transform their safeguarding provision, processes and case management. More recently, Phil has been the strategic lead for safeguarding at Arsenal FC, the Lawn Tennis Association and Premier League Charitable Fund.
