The Coming Out Chronicles

The Coming Out Chronicles

By Nancy Shadlock

That moment: your palms are sweating, your stomach is churning and you're full-on scared. You have to tell someone something. About yourself. About your life. You don't know how they'll take it. You fear the worst. That's a "coming out" moment. Whether you're LGBTQ2S+ or not, you'll be inspired by Nancy Shadlock, CEO and Founder of Centered Life Coaching and her guests as they explore "coming out" stories of all kinds. Listen in weekly as people talk about coming out as trans, as a sex therapist, or share coming out about domestic abuse they've endured. Meet everyday people getting their brave on. We're all hiding in closets of our own making. Everyone has a different story. We are always evolving. We can shed what's no longer true for us. Be inspired by those who left the closet for something better and are willing to talk about it to help you find the courage to rock the next evolution of your own coming out story.

084: Quitting... with Nancy Shadlock, and kind of Annie Duke
I share my synopsis of Annie Duke's book Quit. She shares so many helpful ideas of how to know when it's time to quit and how to do it well.  It really stretched my opinion of quitting from a judgement of being a bad thing, to it being a really good thing. I hope it stretches you to think about times you maybe should have quit sooner in the past, or gives you courage and tools for quitting something that's not working for you right now. If you'd like to share a quitting story from your past that others can learn from, you can record it here and we may even include it on the show if you'd like: https://anchor.fm/comingout/message And if you're ready to quit something but it feels too scary, send me a message and I will be your quit coach.  Nancy@Centered.ca

083: The pain of change; coming out as gay with Mika
This episode is very vulnerable and tender.  Mika shares her coming out in the middle of coming out... not when she's got it all wrapped up with a bow.  I love the inspiration that she is to be honest and live our truth. If you'd like to send in a coming out story of your own, you can click this link and record it to send it in.

I've been gone long enough.  After many nudges, the podcast is back!  I'm doing it raw and unedited, but I'm doing it.  The perfectionist part of me is having trouble just letting it be, but I know, the most important part is just showing up! Many people have told me this podcast has helped them feel inspired and like they aren't alone, so I know it's important to come back and keep sharing. Join me as I share what I've been learning lately and I'd love to hear from you what you've been learning lately.  Drop me a line: nancy@centered.ca

By doing the work of enforcing boundaries and continually honoring and returning to those feelings from childhood, she now implements the values of transparency and authenticity in her work as a dietician advocating for body neutrality.Dalia Kinsey is a Registered Dietitian, Inclusive Employee Wellness Specialist, and creator of the Body Liberation for All podcast, a show dedicated to amplifying the health and happiness of LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) folx. On her mission to spread joy, reduce suffering, and eliminate health disparities in her QTBIPOC community, she rejects diet culture and teaches people to use nutrition as a self-care and personal empowerment tool.03:00: Being raised Jehovah’s Witness10:00: The final straw 28:30: What it took to come out39:30: Coaching body neutralityDalia’s Social MediaInstagram: daliakinseyrdYouTube: Dalia KinseyWebsite: https://www.daliakinsey.com/Facebook: (Centered Life Coaching)Instagram: (Nancy Shadlock)Website: www.centered.caWould you like to donate coming out support for a deserving person? 031: Coming Into Loving Myself with Becca Kunce
In our first episode of 2021, Nancy interviews Becca Kunce, who shares a few of the lessons she’s learned throughout her multiple coming out stories and the ways in which they are intertwined with another. Initially coming to terms with her sexuality led to exploring the nature of her gender, which then led to Becca exploring the facets of her body as a whole in ways she had never before. Through this prompting that led to healing old ways of seeing and interacting with her body, Becca has been able to reckon with many of the narratives surrounding loving one's body and oneself that she learned growing up, which has ultimately allowed her to become a coach and create space for others to find that healing, as well. 06:30: On being gender transcendent10:30: On the process of continually coming out17:00: On giving up dieting37:19: On her next coming out storyFacebook: (Centered Life Coaching)Instagram: (Nancy Shadlock)Website: www.centered.caBecca’s Social MediaWhole Body Love: http://beccakunce.com/Facebook: Whole Love with BeccaYouTube: Becca KunceWould you like to donate coming out support for a deserving person?  Click this link to donate via PayPal.

Today, Al Ramsey joins Nancy to share his personal story of coming out as gay in two separate stories of coming to terms with his identity. On one hand, he was one of the first people to confront the shift in treatment toward the LGBT community in the workforce as he  became an advocate for inclusion at TD bank. Then, with this shift came the need to finally share his full self with his family. Through his courage to come out in both of these situations, Al speaks on how remaining authentic to who he is ultimately allowed him to become a better advocate and make a greater impact in helping other members of the LGBT community.02:36: On coming out twice 09:00: Coming out to TD bank16:00: Coming out to family18:40: Al’s next coming outFacebook: (Centered Life Coaching)Instagram: (Nancy Shadlock)Website: www.centered.caFind Al on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/al-ramsay-6373993/ Rainbow Railroad: https://www.rainbowrailroad.orgWould you like to donate coming out support for a deserving person?  Click this link to donate via PayPal.

After having Darla LeDoux as a guest on the podcast, Nancy talks with Kimmi Ward, Darla’s wife, this week! Kimmi gracefully elaborates on the complexities of gender roles that take place in lesbian relationships, especially in regards to the fluidity of partners taking on masculine and feminine energies. She reflects on how these energies were portrayed while growing up, and how they ultimately come to affect her personal relationship to them now. Though being in a same-gender relationship intrinsically demands grappling with these shifting roles, Kimmi shares the importance of continuing to have conscious conversations that make room for all partners to ever evolve. 02:20: Kimmi’s coming out 14:20: The balance of masculinity and femininity in relationships17:10: The law of polarity25:40: Conscious conversationFacebook: (Centered Life Coaching)Instagram: (Nancy Shadlock)Website: www.centered.caSign up for a FREE month of Be True Be You Dating site.  Would you like to donate coming out support for a deserving person?  Click this link to donate via PayPal.

Dr. Erin Baker shares about their coming out as Non-binary and recent transition to using They/Them pronouns publicly.  Erin loves living in the And, (The name of her podcast) and how she is now choosing to show up in the world... with using she/her AND they/them pronouns.  It can be an unsteadying roller coaster ride to share more of who you are with the world, especially when you have a lot of eyes watching you as a coach and social psychologist, but Erin has continued to lean into it with authenticity and grace, even when people aren't as accepting as they'd hope. 4:43 How do I fit into this box they call female?  These boxes are arbitrary.9:24 I Looked at my breasts and thought they were so alien.18:00 I use she/her and They/them28:11 If your discomfort of using a pronoun is so strong then your love of me is questionable.29:30 Glennon Doyle quote: When given the option to disappoint others or yourself… disappoint others.30:15 We’re afraid of complete and utter abandonment by everyone… but that’s just not going to happen.  Not by everyone.31:00 What are you willing to loose?  We’re afraid to loose the people we gathered when we were not us.  By doing that we are not gathering the people that could be around us by being us.  The right people come.34:10 What’s it been like for your wife on this journey?Facebook: (Centered Life Coaching)Instagram: (Nancy Shadlock)Website: www.centered.caFB: https://www.facebook.com/erin.m.baker.33FB Community - https://www.facebook.com/groups/heartledlaunchpadIG: @drerinmbaker

The Coming Out Chronicles Trailer
The Coming Out Chronicles Trailer
It's not just Queer folks that have a coming out story!  Can you remember a moment like this: when palms are sweating, your stomach is churning and you're full-on scared. Because you have to tell someone something.
