Bruce’s Bio
Bruce has been THE voice behind the UFC for the last 20 years.
He is a super entrepreneur, starting companies as early as his high-school years.
He is a business marketing and branding genius as well as a motivational speaker.
He’s also the 8th best Celebrity Poker Player in the world, a podcast host, an author, and he just performed his first in-person wedding ceremony!
His Journey
In college, a successful sales manager stint led him to form his own company.
Although he was sued by his former employer, he benefitted when he negotiated a return with a bigger salary, more commission and an ownership stake.
From that point forward, he dibble-dabbled in several industries, and owned several more companies, but he was still seeking that enterprise that he could be passionate about.
A turn of fate came when he and his father discovered Michael Buffer, boxing’s most popular announcer, was his brother, and they became close friends.
and was doing financially fantastic, when he and his father rekindled a relationship with Michael Buffer, his brother.
While attending the Evander/Holyfield fight with Michael in 1992, Bruce had an epiphany about branding and trademarking ‘Let’s Get Ready to Rumble’.
Inspired by Pat Riley of the LA Lakers, Bruce was so passionate about his ideas for building an empire based on that tag-line, that he sold all of his existing companies and went full-steam ahead.
As of today, that venture has sold more than $400 million in toys, games and other merchandise worldwide.
The Man in ‘The Octagon’
Bruce let Michael know that he wanted to be a sports announcer too and they agreed he wouldn’t do boxing. He stayed in the industry, attending trade shows, etc., confident that something would come along.
In 1993, UFC did come along and he got his brother a 3-fight deal, but Michael had to discontinue due to contractual obligations with WWE/WCW.
He persisted with UFC, telling them they still needed a ‘Buffer’ in the arena but it fell on deaf ears until he got a role as the UFC announcer on an episode of ‘Friends’.
Bruce took that to the table, the biggest plug UFC had ever gotten, and insisted on a decision or he’d walk away completely. It worked!
Success Basically Comes Down To:
Pursuing Your Dreams, Focusing, Writing Down Your Goals, Going for It and Believing in Yourself and Making it Happen.
Bruce approaches everything he wants to go after with this same strategy.
In life, we are all created equal. It’s about the path that we choose.
Whatever you want to do in life, do it and be the best at it. That’s what separates you from the rest of the players.
Mental Toughness and Tenacity are the Same Across the Board
The mental toughness, persistence and self-development you learn in any kind of fighting or game can be applied to business.
When someone is facing you down, across the field or across the table, you have a decision to make.
You either go for it or you back off. If you get hit, you dust yourself off and get back in the fight.
It’s learning when to be offensive or defensive, thinking 3 moves ahead and anticipating your opponent.
Advice to His Younger Self
Patience is key in everything that you do.
Always approach business unemotionally.
Take a step back from yourself and look at everything objectively.
