Dr. Catherine Macdonald - Director of the Shark Research and Conservation Program at U Miami
Dr. Catherine Macdonald is an interdisciplinary environmental scientist and Research Assistant Professor at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science at the University of Miami. She is the Director of the Shark Research and Conservation Program (SRC), which focuses on shark research and public science engagement and education.
Dr. Macdonald is also the co-founder and Director of Field School, a marine field science training program with a focus on conducting safe and responsible marine field work in an inclusive and supportive environment.

Dr. Toby Daly-Engel - Technique changes with the question

Dr. Lauran Brewster - "What is your biggest picture?"
Dr. Lauran Brewster, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and formerly a senior research fellow at Florida Atlantic University's Harbor Branch. She completed her PhD through the University of Hull in the UK after spending three years collecting data while stationed at the Bimini Biological Field Station in the Bahamas. She has broad research interests that range from fish energetics to ecology and fisheries. Dr. Brewster uses different types of animal-borne technology to address questions in those fields and is currently involved in numerous sharky and non-sharky projects. She’ll be talking about some of her recent research, which includes looking at the activity of juvenile bull sharks in an estuarine nursery in Florida. Enjoy!

Dr. Alex McInturf - Perseverance Pays Off
Dr. Alex McInturf is currently a CICOES postdoctoral fellow at Oregon State University’s Big Fish Lab. Her research generally focuses on how marine organisms respond to environmental variables. She studies salmon and sevengill sharks in California and basking sharks in Ireland. She is currently looking at the foraging ecology of salmon sharks in Oregon and Alaska and its impact on local salmon populations. Enjoy!

Dr. Brit Finucci
Dr. Brit Finucci is a fisheries scientist at NEWA (National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) in New Zealand looking at deep water sharks, chimeras, and skates. Dr. Melanie Hutchinson - Shark Research in Hawaii
Dr. Melanie Hutchinson works towards a future with ecologically friendly fishing practices. To achieve this, she is studying how to reduce shark bycatch in commercial fisheries. Her latest research project was an undertaking of tagging 275 sharks which lead to direct impacts on shark and fish management. Dr. Eugenie Clark - The Shark Lady
This Gills Talk episode is all about “The Shark Lady”, Dr. Eugenie Clark. A pioneer in shark science, and a role model to many. She was an ichthyologist with a special interest in sharks and tropical sand fishes. She has conducted 71 submersible dives as deep as 12,000 feet and over 200 field research expeditions to the Red Sea, Caribbean, Mexico, Japan, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Thailand, Indonesia, and Borneo. With her death in 2015, she still continues to inspire women in science. 11. Dr. Molly Gabler-Smith - Shark Skin
This week on Gills Talk, Kristen interviews Dr. Molly Gabler-Smith. Molly is a functional morphologist interested in how animals use different tissues within and on their bodies for a certain function. She is currently at Harvard University for a postdoctoral fellowship studying shark skin.
