THE DEATH OF LIFE | Episode #39 Hear2Listen Podcast 2020
#39 – The Death of Life Recorded: 25/11/2020
People struggle every day, sometimes without ever displaying that they are troubled. Alan Z. Freuer is quoted as saying: “The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Although struggle is not exclusive to men, the rise in self-harm and suicide in all genders has become a sad fact of modern life. We approach the subject of suicide from all angles including people we have known who have taken their own lives, how we deal with our own difficult situations and share our personal experiences with ‘dark’ thoughts.
We explore that factors that might lead to someone taking their own life and focus on the strategies that could be put in place to support someone out of pain. If you have been affected by any of the content of this podcast or you just want to reach out, get in contact through our website below.

Amy from Young Healthwatch returns to the podcast, having previously been on one of our NCS Community Awareness sessions (see link below). She joins us with two Young Healthwatch volunteers; Emily and Heather.

We talk about how unusual it is to make a phone call to someone and discuss the possibility that young people are missing out on essential communication skills as a result of modern devices and social media.
We explore cancel culture and ask, are we evolving beyond this modern phenomenon to the point where we give people an opportunity for redemption?
Also on the episode: taking social media breaks, the benefits of volunteering, facing your fears to help you evolve, current media trends and Emily and Heather’s future plans.
Finally, we end on an optimistic note as we talk about what positives have come out of the pandemic.
