episode 43 - a lively chat with young, queer artist echo!
Hey y'all!
This week we have an extra special guest episode: this time with the one and only ECHO!! Echo (they/them) is a nonbinary, queer student who is navigating the world as a young Gen Z and trying their best to be their self and get through high school. But we wanted to hear all about that journey, and about what makes them tick!
We met Echo through the Arts Jam program that safeword (you remember Brandon from episode 40?) put on in summer of 2022. While we were there, we met Echo and thought it would be so cool to talk to them about their experience and their art and what they have to say and share. And here we finally are! Long time in the making, a queer convo with Echo!!!

episode 41 - home for the holigays!
Hey y'all, welcome back for the mid-season finale of season 4!
A panel of three, and it's all your fave hosts!! We have come together for one last podcast episode of 2022 to send you off into the holigays with some gorgeous tips on how to get through and thrive!! :)
For our last episode, Sam, Chris, and Kellum decided they wanted to discuss what they are doing for the holigays, what the season looks like for them, and how they survive the difficult times. Queerness and holidays don't always mix, and some of us at HTBQ know that better than others. But regardless, it is a time to celebrate you and your family, whatever family looks like to you. So whether you are with birthed or adoptive or foster family, or with chosen or circumstantial family, celebrate and know that we are with you every step of the way! We love you so much!!

episode 39 - through the looking glass: reflections on families and coming out!
Hey y'all, welcome back for episode five of season 4!
This week we have a panel of two because of food poisoning. But it's totally alright!! Because now you get to experience the joys of listening to the incredible amazing voices of Kellum and Sam!! You still get an episode because we still have hosts in the event of illness :)
Recently, while Sam was just minding her own business, she heard someone say "if my child is queer, I will need some time as a parent" and she was like I KNOW HTBQ NEEDS TO DISCUSS!!! So she brought it to the table this week! Kellum and Sam dive in and discuss the thoughts behind what it means to come out to given family, and the grace or grieving that some talk about needing. They also look at how they represent their queerness in daily life, and compare it with their past, look at how many times and how they have come out, and also look at how their queer journey has evolved and continues to evolve to this very day!
We hope you enjoy the episode! Let us know what you think: drop us a line on our Insta, or email us at

episode 38 - queer horror with max!
Hey y'all, welcome back for episode four of season 4 - Halloweeeeeeeen edition!!
This week we have a panel of four - Sam, Chris, Kellum, and our special guest, Old Hollywood Correspondent, Max Mosher!
We get into some sp00ky territory this week, discussing all things horror! We ask Max some important questions, like 'why is horror queer?' and 'why do we love it so much?' and 'what's ur fave movies?'. We also talk about camp (no, not the outdoors kind, the gay kind) and its place in the horror genre. You are in for a treat with this one y'all. It's simply sp00ktacular!!

episode 37 - pronoun journeys with kellum and chris!
Oopsie sorry about that y'all! We uploaded a version with no sound for about 20 minutes. But this is the right one! Alright, back to regularly scheduled programming.........
..........
Hey y'all, welcome back for episode three of season 4!
This week we have a panel of two because of scheduling conflicts, but this may happen with three of us. But it's totally alright!! Because if it does, you still get an episode because we still have hosts :)
Tomorrow (October 19th) is Pronoun Day, a day to celebrate the fact that people are in charge of their own pronouns. Pronouns are part of gender expression and tell the world how you feel you fit into the giant human social construct that is gender. Pronouns rock because they allow us to feel seen, especially when people use the pronouns that fit our truth. And that's what Kellum and Chris talk about today - how did they come to understand their pronouns, what is their relationship to pronoun usage, and some tips for everyone. Also, some other random gender stuff is discussed.

episode 36 - back to school with chris!
Hey y'all, welcome back for episode two!
This week, we went interview style, but looked for our guest from within the inner HTBQ circle - Chris! Yes, that's right, Chris takes the hot seat and answers questions from Kellum and Sam, with the conversation orbiting around Chris' experience with and intimate knowledge of education! For context, Chris currently works in a secondary school in Ontario and is the department head of social sciences. Chris is also currently working toward a Master in Social Justice Education, so a lot of equity is discussed. Other topics include: How does Chris run their classroom? How did the pandemic change things? What is going on with teens these days?
Let us know how you like us interviewing from within - wanna hear more about us? Drop us a line on our Insta, or email us at

episode 35 - a very harry start to season 4!
Hey y'all, welcome to our grand opening!
We have returned for a healthy season 4, with lots of tasty morsels for you to enjoy! This week, we went roundtable style for a Styles-centred conversation, because there are few hotter queer icons right now. Harry Styles certainly has been making headlines recently, and caught the attention of the gays a long time ago while he was still in 1D with some of his first mentions he might be into guys too. But now he's notable Hollywood celebrity Harry Styles, of a different calibre and applicable to all. So, due to this, and due to Harry being once again asked "r u gAy?" by the media, this week we get into the nitty-gritty with our focus question of the episode: why won't Harry just come out already?!?!?!!!?
Our format for this episode is different than before, but we enjoyed the roundtable style of our conversation for this episode. If it so pleases the court, we would like to continue with this kind of rich conversation into future episodes. But otherwise, what can you expect from this season of HTBQ? Well, honestly all the same GOQS (good ol queer stuff). We have a few guests lined up already, we have some side episodes/series that we will be launching this season, and we will continue to educate you and keep you abreast (or achest) of the hottest topics in queer culture at any given moment.
We love you, thank you so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy episode 1 of this beautiful season!!

episode 33 - queer canadian history with raegan from the arQuives!
In this week's episode we are talking to Raegan Swanson (she/her) about queer Canadian history. We talk about many significant events from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and give you some more of the Canadian context! The events in the queer rights movement in Canada did not happen simultaneously to the US, and thus our histories are quite different. Listen to find out more!

episode 31 - stonewall uprising activist martin boyce!
Well look no further!! HTBQ has got you covered!
This week, in the first episode of our Pride Month series, we are in conversation with Martin Boyce, who was there irl on that infamous day that Stonewall was raided and kick started what we know today as Pride!
"Martin Boyce is a Stonewall Riot (Uprising) activist, sharing the story of one of the most pivotal queer/trans action in history.
The Stonewall Riots (also known as the Stonewall Uprising or the Stonewall Rebellion) were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the gay community in response to a police raid that began in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood of New York City. Patrons of the Stonewall, other Village 2SLGBTQIA+ bars, and neighbourhood street people fought back when the police became violent. The riots are widely considered a watershed event that transformed the gay liberation movement and the twentieth-century fight for LGBT rights in Canada and the United States."
Visit International Day of Pink's Stonewall page for more!
Quick content warning: some descriptions of violence and slurs used.
An immense thank you to the International Day of Pink for arranging this conversation and sponsoring this episode alongside the Embassy of the United States!

episode 30 - kellum and chris!
Pride month starts TOMORROW!!! And as a fun treat because we don't want to leave a random blank space for just one week, we have decided to have an intimate and flirty affair with just Kellum and Chris to get to know them even better!!
Remember back in 2020 when Sam and Chris did a cute episode where they did Buzzfeed quizzes to let you get cozy with their personalities? And Sam and Chris blew up ur eardrums when Sam go Sailor Neptune?? Well get ready because we are going back in time and blowing ur eardrums off again!!!!!!
Just kidding, we are still in 2022 and since Kellum joined us this year we thought we would do a similar pod where you get to know Kellum better by the two of Kellum and Chris taking a Buzzfeed quiz together separately. Follow their journey as they discover which Shrek characters they are by simultaneously taking the "This Is The Most Accurate "Shrek" Personality Quiz You'll Ever Take" Quiz (on Buzzfeed of course)!!
Also, take the quiz for urself and slide into our dms to let us know who you are, or if you are like Deborah Cox and thinking Absolutely Not to our results, ALSO let us know who you think we should have been.
And never forget #t4t #donkeyanddragon

That's right!! HTBQ is coming at you twice today. This particular episode is our conversation with Shelly Skinner (she/her), Black Queer activist extraordinaire and all around bad ass femme leading the way in Simcoe County!!
This conversation has been a long time in the making, and we are SOOOOOO excited to have Shelly on the pod (you can tell by the amount of joy and laughter that is built into this episode :)
In this episode, we discuss what being pan means to her, how we can be better allies to the pan community, the intersections of Queerness and Blackness, and just love in general honestly.
It was such a thrill being able to record this episode from the UPlift Black studio with beautiful equipment. If you would also like to use the space, inquire by emailing info@upliftblack.org!

In this episode we talk about so many things, including representation of queer Asians in Canada, Asian Canadian history, current issues, Phillipines and the Filipino diaspora in Canada, the myth of the Model Minority, and so much more! The episode follows a similar (but not exactly the same) format to our regular episodes, so we aren't giving you exact times of the content. episode 17 - what is queer?
Another fun experiment!
This week, we are giving you a solo experience, the first ever solo venture by one of Sam and Chris!
We want to bring you lots of variety in our content. This week, we thought we would try a new format where one of the hosts tells you about something they learned, some research they did, or something they want to talk about or teach to you. This episode, we are looking at the history and contemporary usage of the word queer - meta, eh?
On this episode, Chris sits down and explains the origin, first use, pejorative uses, reclamation, and current uses of the word queer. A flirty trial episode - let us know what you think!

Okay so today we dive right back into the podcast game with a beautiful special guest, the one-and-only, htbq infamous, Melanie (she/her)!!
We worked with Melanie at the Queerest Place on Earth ™, David's Tea, and we asked her to join us today and give us an insight into her dating life in Toronto. The pandemic has rocked all of our socks, but Melanie teaches us that it's a matter of rolling with the punches, getting your distanced date on even though you can't come within 6 feet of your potential suitor. Plus, Melanie tells us about herself claiming her queer identity and what dating a woman is like from her perspective!

episode 10 - chosen families with kellum jaymes!
Hey our beautiful cultivated family!!!!!
We know it has been like, a month, and what a month it has been. Sincerely, it has been whild. We thought it would be a weekly podcast but 2021 was like HAHAHAHAHA no.
But we are back in ur feed to give you YET ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL GUEST STAR EPISODE!
THAT'S RIGHT
On this episode we are talking about what chosen family means with none other than the magnificent Kellum Jaymes (they/them)! We thought this episode would rock your socks since this past Monday was Chosen Family Day, and the one and only Ilona Verley even mentioned it in their Insta feed. A chosen family is so so so so so important to queer people, and in this episode we discuss the beautiful nuances of that concept.
So, your task today is to think about what makes a family. Who is your family? Why?
Once you have done this, talk to your beautiful chosen family and make sure that you let them know that you love them - they need it right now more than ever. Winter is almost over hunnis, we have almost made it thru!! 23 more days!!!
Have a very chaotic (but make it gender-neutral) day, aaaaaand

Those subtle glances between your fave wamyn, those lusty looks between the boi hero and his boi villain counterpart, the thing where you are like 'what gender is this character trying to be here?' but it goes unsaid. Yeah. That's queer coding. And Sam and Chris use expletives to describe their issues with making characters queer but not saying it.
Welcome back our beautiful fam, we have missed you! Look for our next short episode in ur feeds TOMORROW!!

episode 7 - wow 2020 thx!
This one is for the girls the gays and the theys. Out here doin hot girl sh*t. We see u.
2020 was a ride and we definitely were on that ride, felt every damn bump. But you know what, we are here in 2021, bruised and battered as a species but we are certainly not knocked down permanently.
In a personal sense, Sam and Chris also went through it. You may have noticed an extended absence - you can thank 2020 for that. But just like the rest of humanity, we are resilient and we have bounced back up and aren't going anywhere.
THE QUEERS ARE HERE TO STAY. We show it time and again, you can't keep us down.
Anyway, enjoy this last episode of season 1, a 2020-is-finished-so-let's-get-down-with-our-bad-selves special.
See you on Sam's champagne birthday!
Until then, Sam and Chris wish you a blessed Time of Renewal (Happy New Year, Happy Kwanzaa, Blessed Yule, Happy Solstice; ie, enjoy yourself however you are celebrating the festival of lights!)

episode 6 - guest: wally/jackelynne ouvall traydes
GUEST WHAT?? We have a brand new episode for u, a real treat because it's our very first guest episode! Keeping this in mind, please bear with sound quality because we are gay and can't help it. Zoom mixed with the unregulated vocal decibel levels of the queers is not always a great combination, but it makes for a fun time, and a couple of jolts to the nervous system if you are wearing airpods (be warned). Who needs coffee? The gays, that's who. Iced pls.
Wally tells us stuff about his family life, some things about their drag, some lived experiences of racism and homophobia, her understandings on the definition of drag, and she tells it like it is. He exudes pure energy, even through the tinny Z00m call. Follow Wally's journey of self discovery in and out of drag through the channels below.
PS: This is Wally's first of probably like three or seven episodes, with the next one being a full definition of drag and another getting deeper into their understanding of themselves.
PPS: Enya Dreams, a local queen mentioned in the episode, is also linked below.
Enjoy! See you soon! (Maybe next Tuesday? Whom knows. At this point, the episodes will be coming out on a semi-regular basis because it's 2020 and there is a lot of sh*t going on rn. Anyway love u all!!)

episode 5 - the terf crisis
CW: This episode is about terfs, which are transphobic people who claim to be feminists. This means some anti-trans rhetoric is discussed.
...
You may have heard recently about JK R*wling and her outing herself as a terf. But what the heck is a terf??? Today, we are discussing the idiocy that is excluding trans women from the construction of womanhood. We here at HTBQ do not condone the actions of terfs and wish they would just stop it already because they don't make sense and look stupid tbh.
