NTHN Talks New Music, What Makes The Perfect R&B Song, The Ottawa Scene & More
Well folks, it's been a ride. Due to some big shake ups coming out of DTTW HQ, you guys can consider this the last episode of DTTB for a while. There will be no shortage of musical guests coming through the doors of DTTW, however you'll be able to find them on the DTTW podcast from here on out as we are transitioning into a one podcast organization. With that being said, this final episode is a fun one. NTHN stops by the shop to talk about everything from his young and blossoming career, to what he thinks makes up the perfect R&B song. We also traverse the classic topic of Ottawa and what the city means to him, as well as his feature in the Soundcloud Spotlight series after an almost accidental win in the Toronto region.

Freddy Printz talks New EP 'The Candidate', Growing With Music, Collecting Art & More
This week's episode of Down to the Beat can be considered the first stop of Freddy Printz' press run for his new EP titled 'The Candidate'. For just under an hour Johnny Blaze and the Prince of the cold capital chop it up about the Deflare Beats produced 3-track EP, his artistic inspiration and documenting his mental growth through his bars.
Don't worry, he also walks back his claims about 'The Batman' from his last appearance, however a strong argument is made opposing his views due to the receipts we kept.

GHETTO GODS Review & The Race for Good Content
This week's episode is kicked off with John introducing his new nickname, Johnny Gems, which gets things hyped right from the jump. We are also joined by our cousin ANR Abe, so with four minds on the mics, banter was at an all time high. The first order of business was a review of EarthGang's much anticipated album 'GHETTO GODS' which got generally great reviews from our team. This was followed by trying to get to the bottom of what makes an artist a superstar, after Joe Budden's recent comments about Megan Thee Stallion. 'Few Good Things' Album Review & Because Benny The Butcher Got High
This weeks episode of Down to the Beat is kicked off with a conversation about how much money is a reasonable amount to spend on a paper towel holder for your home after an off camera conversation about furniture trickles into the recording. From there we move into a review and discussion about Saba's new album, 'Few Good Things' which John had incredibly high praise for, even deeming it album of the year so far as he writes this and regrets not saying that on the podcast now.
At about the halfway mark the episode focuses on Adele's cancelled residency in Las Vegas and how a new impersonator of the British superstar is the hottest new act at an impersonators show. We then roast impersonators. To cap the episode off we briefly talk about a set of brothers from South Africa who pulled a virtual heist of $3.8 billion in Bitcoin, only to never be seen again.

The album was met with mixed reviews over here, however the album cover and roll out were undeniably great. This episode of Down to the Beat is kicked off with a conversation about Baby Keem's new album, "The Melodic Blue", which turned out to be the dark horse album of the summer. Seriously, that shit is fire. After that we pay respects to Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur as on the day of recording, Biggie dropped "Ready to Die", and Tupac passed away. To cap the episode off, we talk about the Graduation vs. Curtis rollout which occurred 14 years ago. A friendly beef between Kanye and 50 Cent that made us reminisce about a simpler time in hip hop competition.
Donda Review vs. Certified Lover Boy Review
This episode is the one you have all been waiting for. It's here, or should we say, they're here. Kanye West and Drake have both dropped their much anticipated albums and we finally get the chance to review them. There isn't much more that needs to be said to describe this episode than that. We also show some love to Mac Miller and give credit where credit is due to Tyler, the Creator for their new single "Big Persona". We also cap the episode off with some Kendrick talk.
Lyrical Lemonade & Drake vs. Kanye Beef
This episode is kicked off with a discussion about some of the notable people who have birthdays today. We then move into a conversation about Cole Bennett, his grind and how Lyrical Lemonade is growing to be one of our favourite brands. We then talk about Racco and John's music video acting debut and the block party City Fidelia held here in Ottawa. We then cap the episode off with some commentary on the Drake and Kanye West war that seems to be on the horizon.
This Week In Hip Hop History & Is Jim Jones A Snitch?
We got a full studio this week folks as all five DTTW staff take to the studio for this week's episode. Sadly, only three of us are mic'd up... The episode is kicked off with a quick history lesson on NWA's one and only ever EP titled, "100 Miles and Runnin'", their first project after the departure of Ice Cube. After that we talk Donda, again, and question whether or not it is actually going to live up to the hype. The episode is then capped off with a breakdown of Tekashi 6ix9ine and Jim Jones' longstanding feud where we deep dive into the logistics of 6ix9ine's accusations regarding Jones and how it looks for Jim Jones through the eyes of two guys who are not even close to being about that life.

Kings Disease II & RIP Biz Markie
This week on Down to the Beat we kicked off with a deep dive into the legendary MC, Nas and his 13th studio album: "Kings Disease II". In 2020, "Kings Disease" was Nas's first ever grammy winning album and for him to come out with a sequel within less than a year is really saying something. We then pay homage to the legendary Biz Markie who passed away July 16th 2021. We talk about the impact he had in the game since the late 60's as well as his great sense of humour that made the type of Hip Hop we all grew to love. We then cap off the episode with another discussion about Kanye West's upcoming album DONDA and how we felt about the 2nd listening event he had at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The first ever Tuesday release of Down to the Beat is kicked off with a discussion about Isaiah Rashad's new album, "The House Is Burning" which was met with varied receptions on this week's four person cast. We then move into a conversation about Kanye and his upcoming album which of course still hasn't dropped. We then cap off the episode with a discussion about Travis Scott's new movie deal with A24, after dancing nervously around not talking about the DaBaby incident from Rolling Loud two weekends ago.

This week we catch up with the Zulu in Atlanta, the one and only Ngola. Hailing from Umlazi, South Africa, the multi faceted artist now resides in Atlanta and is releasing music under a genre called "Zulu Sci-fi". Over the course of an hour, your hosts with the most chopped it up with him about everything from his time as an actor, his label/collective "Leaders of the Future World", his views on the current state of hip-hop, his rich heritage and how it affects him to this day.
