Is Stalking Your Opposition A Strategy?
In this episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, Tabbi R, former captain of the Jays talks strategy. During her captaincy, Tabbi navigated successive injuries in her team (which she believes was a curse), prioritised team bonding as a means to success and thoroughly researched her opposition - some would say stalked. We also consider psychological strategy in overcoming the nerves surrounding big games, like Varsity - which for Tabbi has been quite eventful.
Running a Marathon During Lockdown
In this episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, Claire told me all about the marathon she ran for Emmanuel International during lockdown. We discuss training, diet and perseverance, throughout training and in still completing the challenge once the Manchester Marathon was cancelled. Having recently graduated as a medic, I asked her how it has been starting as a doctor and we also reflect on her favourite memories from her two years at CULNC.

Overcoming Serious Injury - Part 2
In part two of this two-part episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, Laura V and Sarah L talk more about their experiences of serious injury and the mental challenges of missing out on playing netball and of persevering with the slow and tough process of recovery. They also compare being injured earlier in life to getting injured whilst living independently at Uni and the additional challenge this presents. They consider why they think injury prevention work is important for everyone and how this might be implemented as part of our training.
Overcoming Serious Injury - Part 1
In the first part of this two-part episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, Laura V and Sarah L discuss their own experiences of serious injury, operations, physio and the mental challenges of missing out on playing netball and of persevering with the slow and tough process of recovery. They also consider the importance of telling your friends and teammates when you're struggling and how much CULNC supported them when they did.
Sibling Rivalry
In this episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, I caught up with the Agnew sisters, Ciara and Fenna. We have a light-hearted, hilarious discussion about their relationship as sisters, who are both at the same Uni and both playing netball for Cambridge. Ciara is our current Club Captain and has played for the Jays for the past two years, and Fenna joined Cambridge last year, playing for the Blues.
Why go Vegan? - Part 2
In this two-part episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, I chat with Carla about being vegan. We discuss our favourite netflix documentaries and recipe books as well as other ways we have learnt about veganism. We consider how being vegan is widely perceived, especially since going vegan has become trendy. We also discuss our slip-ups and how others may not consider us fully 'vegan'.
Why go Vegan? - Part 1
In this two-part episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, I chat to Carla about being vegan. We discuss the ethical and environmental impact of diet, as well as the nutritional reasons behind going plant-based, which is becoming increasingly popular among international athletes. We consider our own pathways to transitioning to veganism and whether this was as challenging as it may seem.
Should I Try Yoga?
In this episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, Millie and Annabel explain why everyone can and should do yoga. We discuss the mental health benefits of taking a break from the stress of everyday life to be calm and in tune with yourself, as well as the potential for yoga to improve your strength, flexibility and balance, whether you are new to and reluctant to exercise or part of an intense training programme. Yoga has helped both Millie and Annabel overcome netball injuries and we consider what yoga has to offer a high impact sport, such as netball.
Playing International Netball
In this episode of Keeping Tabs with CULNC, I chat to Mary Carson about her pathway to playing netball for Northern Ireland. We discuss balancing University work and playing high level sport and look back at her year at Cambridge, playing netball for Cambridge University Ladies' Netball Club. Some highlights include why rowing maybe isn't for everyone, Mary failing to keep a secret from the Northern Ireland national squad and the changing room antics behind the Blues' most exciting match this year!
