Sweating Oaths
Today, we're going to be thinking about answering questions. We've all seen press conferences or met people who we know are being 'economical with the truth.' I wonder, though, is there a better way? We'll find out from James 5:9-12.
Also coming up on this Pod is a bit of an announcement from the Pod team and chance to become the next Brain of the Week.

Abide with me
Abide with me: fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.
You may recognise this as the first verse of Henry Francis Lyte's famous hymn, often sung before the FA Cup Final. What, what does it mean to abide? How might we abide with God? We'll find out from John 15:9-11.

I know, we can't go quite yet, but I'm sure that we're all looking forward to being able to go on holiday. Whether to the seaside, walking through the dales or overseas, it's nice to bet a bit of rest and relaxation.
Today, we're going to be thinking about our eternal rest once our earthly journey is finished. We'll find out what Jesus said on the subject from John 14:1-6.

Dinner Time!
It's picnic time o the side of the hill. After a long walk, people look around to see who has carried the food. They all think someone else has it. The truth is, nobody has.
Whilst I'm sure that this scenario has happened many times, today we'll be thinking about the time it happened to those who were following Jesus. Only one small boy had remembered to bring anything. We find out what happens next from John 6:1-15.

Fish
There is definitely something fishy going on.
Welcome to this episode of the Moss Valley Pod. Today, we're thinking about fishing and the story of some expert fishermen who catch absolutely nothing. We'll find out what happens when someone from the bank makes a suggestion. The story is from John 21:1-14.

Good Friday
Good Friday has always struck me as a funny name for today. There doesn't seem to be all that much that is good about it. This is especially true if you don't know how the story ends a few days later on.
Can we find anything good in Good Friday? We'll have a look at John 19:16-30 to see if we can.

This Sunday marks Palm Sunday. It's the day when Christians remember Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem just a few short days before his death and resurrection. Today is the day, however, that the church remembers Joseph of Nazareth. As such, we'll hear part of the Christmas Story from Matthew 1:18-25. In it, we hear about an angels visit to Joseph to let him in on what's happening. But, what will Joseph do? We'll find out.

This week, it's nearly Mothering Sunday. Since the Middle Ages, it's been the day when people have journeyed to their mother church - the place where they were baptised.

Who Said It?
In this episode, were going to think about who said what. Does how somebody dresses affect what we think of their opinion? Are we more likely to listen to somebody smartly dressed than somebody in scruffs? It's an interesting thing to think about as we listen to John 7:14-18.

Welcome to this episode of the Moss Valley Pod.

St Cyprian

No, this is not a cheesy counting sheep joke. As bishop of Carthage, Cyprian had responsibility for looking after the Christians in the city, often referred to as his flock. It's why bishops carry a shepherds crook. We'll be learning more about Cyprian and hearing more about sheep from Ezekiel 34:11-16.

You're Nicked!
Whilst perhaps inspired by them, this episode is sadly not from an 80s Cop drama.
Instead, it's the words that might have been said by the leaders of the Temple in Jerusalem. Why? Because, in their eyes, the disciples Peter and John were up to no good. We'll find out what got them into such trouble from Acts 4:1-12.

Walking Down the Street
Today on the Moss Valley Pod, we're going for a walk. Whilst you don't have to go anywhere (although you might want to listen whilst on your daily stroll), our walk is going to be with Cleopas and his companion as they walk from Jerusalem to Emmaus. What might happen as they walk along? We'll find out in Luke 24:13-35.
There's also the next Brain of the Week to find. This week, the questions are all about literature.

The Criminals
Over the last week or so, we've been hearing different parts of the story of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, teaching and trial. In this episode, we hear from Luke 23:26-43, where we hear the soldiers take Jesus and crucify him.
What might this teach us about forgiveness for today?

Half Century
We've made it! A half century of episodes of the Moss Valley Pod. Thank you so very much to all our listeners and contributors - I very much appreciate you all.
In this episode, our reading is taken from Luke 22:31-38. Jesus and his disciples are at the Last Supper, the evening before Jesus' death on the cross. He's giving the disciples, and Peter in particular, one last pep talk about the events of the next few hours and also the time beyond. What might this mean for us today?
We'll also have the answers to last Friday's Brain of the Week quiz.
