Maimouna Diakite (My-moo-na) (Ja-key-tae) shares her journey of growth as a woman born with Spina Bifida, who spent her life wheelchair bound. She has experienced bullying, anxiety, depression, and discrimination as a result of her condition. She faced rejections, doubts and even fears. Spent days feeling unpretty but kept dreaming of being a model giving  others someone that looks like her in print and on screen. Her desire to push through her obstacles and blaze a path for herself that others will be able to look to and eventually follow is inspiring and powerful. Something, I never fully understood till she was gone. Far too often we give up the peace we own today in order to put mental and emotional deposits on the problems of tomorrow that we have no evidence of! It’s time to stop borrowing trouble!

Going  through breast reconstruction surgery is no different whether It is due to breast cancer or infection. the impact on your self esteem, as well as your physical and emotional well being is far reaching. Finding your physical new normal is a painful process when you are forced to go through  traumatic surgery in order for you to live.  In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I had the distinct pleasure of  of speaking with my sister and dear friend Miss Zakeisha.
