Season 02 Episode 09 - The Business Power Hour
The Business Power Hour.
How to grow your business by 50% or more. This week's Podcast showcases the importance of knowledge. As business owners, we are often expected to understand all business operations, government obligations, and knowledge of the industry chosen. This week we catch up with Mario Conde, a close friend of mine who assisted my business when I first started. Mario has operated in small companies to global blue-chip companies in the capacity of business operations, management, and sales. The understanding of sales can be attributed directly back to knowledge; knowledge of the service or product and the knowledge to understand the pain points and reason for your service.
Mario helps explain how to gain and retain the trust of customers. The acquisition of new clients creating a sustainable business through profit. Managing your money, re-investment, growth, and looking at new markets and the importance of education. The silent achiever in business is training through education. Something that gets looked over but is the most important slow-burning business money maker. “Training is not a quick money maker like buying a new piece of machinery, at least with a new piece of equipment you can put in on a job right away and you can see the money. With investment into education, it takes longer to see the increase of business income” Mario explained.
What is the cost of going 5 mins out of your way?
Thank you, Mario, for your time and the great conversation. This Podcast is of general conversation and direction. The saying “I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it” runs true to this day.

Season 02 Episode 07 Celebrating 50 years
50 years and still going strong. Shorty started cleaning in 1971 and shortly after introducing his wife to be Delia. The couple started in Perth, moved to Sydney, then Weipa, and has now settled in Cairns providing Cairns with a great deal of experience and knowledge in the cleaning, and specialised fields of carpet and upholstery cleaning, leather cleaning, and spot dying.
Shorty and Delia have just only started to slow down reaching their 50-year anniversary in the cleaning industry this year. Shorty, just turning 76 is looking to revamp their business and just specialise in specialty work. Not saying this will be the case with the number of loyal clients he has.
I had known shorty when I first entered the cleaning and restoration industry back in 1997 as the “Guru” of encapsulation. A new method of cleaning and for the sceptics, not a professional cleaning method. This has now shown to be one of the goes to methods of carpet and upholstery cleaning in 2021.

Every day our companies are fighting a different battle, trying to survive, beat the competition, and achieve goals efficiently. However, the challenge becomes that much easier when you have people around you that share the load within the workplace.
When brilliant minds, with big ambitions, work towards a common goal, amazing things happen. Employees can complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses and eventually become unstoppable. This is why collaboration and teamwork play a crucial role in the success of any business.

Season 01 Episode 11 - Meth Testing and Decontamination
Season 01 Episode 11
Meth testing and Decontamination
Welcome Rick Molloy from MTK Group
Begin with letting people know about yourself and how it is that you came to become involved in the industry.
What have been some of the steps you have taken to become one of Australia’s leading companies in Meth Test Kits and Training?
What is the different type of testing methods and what are their strengths and weaknesses?
What have you developed to separate yourself from the other meth testing companies on the market, and what can see you as the main benefits?
What are the signs you teach for people entering a property to look out for, as far as contaminated sites?
Who is the training for?
Can anyone just buy a test kit and perform property testing?
Why is training important?
What do the results mean?
Are their standards in Australia, and do they differ from State to State?
Is their legislation around the testing and decontamination of meth affected properties?
What could be some of the limitations faced by a remediation contractor when decontaminating a positive tested property?
Currently, what requirements are mandatory for a contractor to bid on a remediation project?
Are their differences for commercial and residential properties?
Are their differences between a confirmed cook property to a smoking property?
What about vehicles, are they subject to the same regulations and parameters around decontamination?
As part of your research and development, your working with the University of Qld, what research are you currently working on?
How will this research benefit trained operators and is this likely to make a change to any current legislation?
Who is your ideal contractor? What knowledge would they have or need to grasp if either becoming a tester or remediator?
What type of training programs are currently offered by MTK Group?
Once they have this training, what would be their next steps to gaining actual first hand skills on a contaminated or suspected contaminated site?
Realistically, can anyone become a tester?
Become a remediation technician?
And what would some of the costs and outgoing you will need to consider? Including additional insurances
Looking at your products for sale, lets look at your testing equipment.
1. Field Testing – Different types and the advantages and dis-advantages
2. pH and VOC’s testing – Why is this important
3. Laboratory testing and how to read the report
4. Decontamination equipment
5. Decontamination chemicals
There are many decontaminating chemicals now on the market, can you provide understanding around the reason why you have gone the way of your chemical and some of the benefits your finding with the results you have after the completion of your remediated properties.
After remediation, what are the steps required for clearance?
Issues arising in the industry when there is a second opinion by a competitor trying to discredit your work?
What are the realistic time frames for the complete meth decontamination, including testing pre and post for a property?
What could be some of the unforeseen issues arising for the decontamination of a property? i.e. Wallpaper, exposed timber, chipboard products (cabinetry), popcorn ceilings, pre 1990’s homes (asbestos), hold to cold to hot surfaces etc.
Round up and recall on pockets of gold.

Season 01 Episode 10 Introducing CARSI
How can $22/month save your business hundreds of dollars per month?
What is CARSI? And the drive for the concept? Listen to this week’s Podcast.
CARSI – Cleaning and Restoration Science InstituteThis non-recognized industry with high expectations having little support to develop and establish best and common practices over many cleaning platforms.
The majority of people starting a cleaning business as well as employing cleaning staff don’t necessarily come from an educational background with the skills to develop better training cleaning model businesses.
Those who do have a background in higher education may not also have all the necessary skills to run a multi-million-dollar cleaning business due to many factors.
The idea of CARSI is to try and bridge the gap for cleaners who may already have a cleaning company and those who might be looking at starting a cleaning company to understand the business requirements, training requirements, and documentation required for any business.
Information in the industry can be hard to find and navigate, applying the order of relevance to your business. CARSI is the platform designed to allow small businesses to manage their time and gather the information required efficiently and easily saving time and hundreds of dollars every month.
CARSI has poled several small businesses on the frustrations faced and lack of support with the results common throughout the study. Over 90% showed to have the same issues, no matter the size which means a detriment to their business and their staff.
The development of essential business models has been the goal of CARSI when developing our business model. As part of the membership we asked our team to follow these 7 simple guidelines:
· Ensure the information is valuable and easy to understand
· Access to the site easily accessible
· Small business models do not have a lot of money for training
· Provide support across many business criteria’s
· Develop a community
· Provide alternate skill directions
· Different learning styles addressed
This week’s podcast is an understanding of the CARSI business model and what it will bring to the “Cleaning” Industry. CARSI is not stagnated in one particular portion of the cleaning industry and will demonstrate we are across the entire cleaning industry.
Keys to success - Value for money, not monetary value. (Phill McGurk)
