Justin Douglas: Fairy Creek, The Last Stand
Justin Douglas is Managing Director at Just In Canada, an independent, alternative media platform and youtube channel that gives voice to innovators, community activists, educators, and other involved, informed Canadians.  Recently, Justin released a documentary called Fairy Creek: The Last Stand.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-DitozPh98&t=0s Fairy Creek: The Last Stand (Documentary Film)  In less than 150 years, 97.3% of British Columbia's old growth forests have been logged. These ancient trees and their ecosystems have been lost forever. Fairy Creek (Ada'itsx), one of BC's last untouched old growth watersheds, lies on Southern Vancouver Island on the unceded territories of the Pacheedaht, Ditidaht and the Huu-ay-aht Nations. Despite Premier John Horgan's 2020 election promise to protect the remaining 2.7% of old growth forest, logging of Fairy Creek continues unabated. In August 2020, forest and land defenders began setting up blockades to prevent the destruction of this beautiful and fragile ecosystem. One year later, after mass civil action, over 500 arrests and intense public pressure, the conflict continues. This comprehensive and compelling documentary film sheds light on the issues around the logging and blockades, through conversations with Indigenous Elders, politicians, police, lawyers, front line activists, and many others. ******************************   Thanks to Vox Vegana for the intro music.   Plant Powered Radio broadcasts Tuesdays 11 am - noon PT at http://cfuv.ca  Podcasts: PocketCasts, Breaker, Spotify, RadioPublic, Anchor, Overcast and Google   Instagram - @plantpoweredradio  Twitter - @envirovegan   With gratitude for the opportunity to live, work, and create on the unceded traditional lands of the Coast Salish Peoples.

Edith Barabash: Farmhouse Garden Animal Home: from Cattle Ranch to Farm Sanctuary
The Farmhouse Garden Animal Home is located in Uxbridge, Ontario, not far from Toronto.  For generations it was a cattle ranch, but in 2016 the multi-generational organic farmer and cattle rancher Mike Lanigan had a change of heart … he decided he no longer wanted to send the cows to slaughter.  Mike invited his employee, Edith Barabash, to help convert the cattle ranch into a sanctuary, a safe haven where the animals can live safely and happily until the natural end of their lives.     Learn more about the Farmhouse Garden Animal Home  Visit Farmhouse Garden Animal Home on Instagram  Visit Farmhouse Garden Animal Home on Facebook  Invite Buckwheat to Zoom crash your gatherings and meetings!

lauren Ornelas: Food Empowerment Project and what it means to be a Vegan for ALL species
lauren Ornelas: Food Empowerment Project and what it means to be a Vegan for ALL species
lauren Ornelas has been active in the animal rights movement for over 30 years, creating the Food Empowerment Project in 2007.     FEP’s mission is to create a more just and sustainable world for everyone, by recognizing the power of our food choices.  But lauren and her colleagues also realize that it’s not so easy for everyone to simply choose healthy vegan products, depending on things like how much money we earn, and where we live.    lauren talks about the ways oppression and injustice affects all beings, and why vegans must extend our circle of compassion to understand the challenges that some of our neighbours might be faced with when they make their food choices.   Food Empowerment Project Website ******************************   With gratitude for the opportunity to live, work, and create on the unceded traditional lands of the Coast Salish Peoples.   ****************************** Visit Plant Powered Radio -   on Instagram on Patreon    on YouTube
