From there, the guys talk about the NBA Playoffs overall, including the Clippers epic collapse against the Nuggets, then finish things up by answering your questions with a Mavs Offseason Mailbag 2.0. Thanks for listening, and be sure to subscribe!

What would be the Mavs' most realistic trade offer for Bradley Beal?
On this episode, Dalton and Matt start off by discussing the second round of the NBA Playoffs, including the Miami Heat knocking out Giannis Antetokounmpo and the top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks in just 5 games. How could this complicate things with Giannis and the Bucks going forward? Even if he declines his extension, is one for year of true title contention worth risking Giannis walk away in free agency? Do the Mavs have a legitimate shot at him? All of that is answered in the first half of this episode. In the second half, the guys discuss the possibility of the Mavs pursuing a Bradley Beal trade on draft night, including what they think the most realistic trade offer from Dallas would be. As always, thanks for listening!

Mavs Offseason Mailbag: If Milwaukee trades Giannis, should Dallas offer Porzingis?
On this week's massive hour-long episode, Dalton and Matt spend the majority of the time answering listeners' questions about potential options the Mavs could have this offseason. Some of these topics include what type of players Dallas should target, what players are worth the Mavs trading their draft picks for, and the most interesting topic of all... if Giannis declines the Bucks' super max extension, and the Bucks decide they need to trade him, should the Mavs potentially offer Porzingis in order to get Giannis in the door before 2021 free agency? Given contract lengths, would it be too much of a risk? The guys discuss all that and much, much more. Thanks for listening, and thanks for submitting your questions! Keep 'em coming!

Mavs eliminated by Clippers in Game 6: Luka Doncic - 'My only goal is a championship'
On this episode, the guys recap the Mavs' 111-97 Game 6 loss to the Clippers, which officially brought their 2019-2020 season to a close. Luka Doncic was amazing while facing elimination for the first time in his career, finishing with 38 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, but wasn't able to overcome the mounting injuries that the Mavs suffered as a whole all season long. After talking about the game, the guys immediately look towards the Mavs' future with the NBA Draft, Free Agency, and potential trades that could be made to improve the roster heading into next season. Thanks for listening!

Mavs/Clippers Game 5 Recap, Game 6 Preview, and why the NBA needs to suspend Marcus Morris
On this episode, Dalton and Matt discuss how things got so ugly for the Mavs in their lopsided 154-111 Game 5 loss to the Clippers on Tuesday night and what the team must do on Thursday to push this series to a Game 7. Also, the guys talk about how NBA should suspend Marcus Morris for what looked like an intentional attempt to step on Luka Doncic's hurt ankle. Thanks for listening!

“BANG!”: Luka Doncic downs Clippers at the buzzer in Game 4 to give Mavs the win!
On this episode, the guys gleefully talk about the Dallas Mavericks' unreal Game 4 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Luka Doncic, who was questionable before the game with an ankle injury, ended up starting for the Mavs and played the best game of his young career with 43 points, 17 rebounds, 13 assists and one huge step-back buzzer-beating three-pointer in overtime to give his team the 135-133 win. Dalton and Matt talk about the greatness of Luka's performance and much, much more. Thanks for listening!

Mavs fall to Clippers in Game 3, 130-122, as Luka suffers ankle injury
On this episode, the guys recap the Dallas Mavericks' 130-122 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 3 of their first round series. Despite the Mavs outscoring the Clippers 37-28 in the fourth quarter, it wasn't enough to overcome the second quarter, where the Clippers outscored the Mavs 45-31. Luka Doncic became the first Maverick to ever record a triple double in the playoffs with 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, but his night took a turn for the worst when he suffered a nasty ankle sprain, putting his status for Game 4 in question. As good as Porzingis was, and as much as the rest of Doncic's teammates tried to rally in his absence, Kawhi Leonard's dominant performance was just too much to overcome. We discuss all of this and more in this episode. As always, thanks for listening!

Mavs vs. Clippers Playoff Preview: What Luka & Co. have to do to pull off the upset!
Can the Mavs realistically make a seven-game playoff series competitive with the Clippers? Could they even potentially pull off a major upset when it's all said and done? We believe so, and Dalton Trigg (@dalton_trigg) and Matt Galatzan (@MattGalatzan) layout the blueprint for a Mavs upset of the Clippers in this week's episode of the Mavs Step Back Podcast. 'Halleluka!' ... We Finally Have a Mavs Win in the Bubble!
On this episode, the guys recap the Mavs' 114-110 overtime win over the Kings, which ended a two-game losing skid. With the win, the Mavs are still the only team in the entire NBA to have not lost three games in a row. Luka Doncic put up a monster performance in this one, scoring 34 points to go with 20 rebounds and 12 assists. Doncic became the youngest player to ever put up a 30-20-10 stat line. The guys discuss how this Luka performance reminded them of some of Dirk Nowitzki's performances back in the day, where he would just seem to will the Mavs to victory at times. Is there any way the Mavs could upset the Clippers in the playoffs if Doncic is playing that way on a nightly basis? Catch all that Mavs talk and more right here. Thanks for listening!

Mavs Basketball is FINALLY BACK!
On this episode, Dalton Trigg (@dalton_trigg) and Matt Galatzan (@MattGalatzan) express their joy from the NBA (and Dallas Mavericks basketball, specifically) finally being back in action, as scrimmages officially began on Wednesday. The Mavs will play their first scrimmage against the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday night at 6 p.m. From there, the guys discuss how the Mavs have taken over the 'bubble' from a social media standpoint, and how that show of great chemistry could help them going into the future. Other topics discussed include how the NBA's bubble experiment is working perfectly so far, and wondering why the Mavs didn't take a chance on Bol Bol last summer when they had the opportunity. Thanks for listening!

Can the Mavs Start Their '3rd Star' Recruiting in Orlando?
On this episode, Dalton Trigg and Matt Galatzan are joined by DallasBasketball.com's boss man Mike Fisher to discuss all things Mavs Bubble-related. First, the guys dive into a couple of recent 105.3 The Fan interviews with TNT's Kenny Smith and Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle. Smith believes that the Mavs don't need a '3rd star,' something we've also written about here at DBcom in recent weeks. Is he right?  In the second half of this episode, Fish talks about his personal expectations for the Mavs as they prepare to fly to Orlando for the NBA restart set to take place on July 30 (July 31 for the Mavs). Although this NBA bubble experiment is mostly about playing basketball and finishing the season, Fish offers up an interesting point about how this could be the Mavs opportunity to start informally recruiting their '3rd star,' should they decide that they need one. As always, thanks for listening! (Note: this is from our recorded Zoom video conference, so there are a few hiccups in the audio, but nothing major)

'Orlando Bubble' Schedule Predictions and the Mavs as a 'Sneaky' Finals Pick?
On this episode, the guys discuss former Mavs head coach Avery Johnson saying Dallas could be a 'sneaky' pick to get to the NBA Finals this season with Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis playing at their best, as well as Trey Burke taking Willie Cauley-Stein's roster spot. From there, the guys talk about to newly released Mavs 'Orlando Bubble' schedule and make predictions for that eight-game stretch. Thanks for listening!

Step Back Quarantine: Ranking TV Shows, Video Games, Snacks and more!
This week, Dalton and Matt are back to discuss how life has been since the COVID-19 pandemic forced the NBA to suspend its season. Having a lot more time at home than they usually do, the guys discussed what tv shows they've really gotten into over the last few weeks, as well as video games and quarantine snacks too. Although this particular episode isn't centered on the Mavs like it usually is, we encourage our listeners to go back and listen to some of our favorite episode with big guests like Mark Cuban, Donnie Nelson, Will Cain and many others. Luka vs. Zion, and Porzingis playing at an MVP level
On this episode, Dalton and Matt recap the Dallas Mavericks' thrilling 127-123 overtime win over the New Orleans Pelicans, which was the first of many duels between young superstars Luka Doncic and Zion Williamson. The guys talk about the great defensive jobs Maxi Kleber and Kristaps Porzingis did on Williamson, as well as the MVP-level Porzingis has been playing over the last month. From there, the conversation shifts to what the ceiling of this team could be heading into the playoffs, while also taking a quick glance at the current Western Conference standings with only 18 games remaining. Luka/KP's growing chemistry, Cuban's protest, falling in love with THJ, and much more!
On this episode, Dalton and Matt discuss the Mavs' recent 4-game stretch, where they've gone 3-1 overall, but 3-0 with three blowout wins in the games where both Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis play. The Mavs' young star duo's chemistry is just now starting to click in a way it didn't early on in the season, and it couldn't come at a better time with the Mavs jockeying for playoff position in the Western Conference. The conversation then shifts the Mavs' loss to the Hawks from Saturday night ... a game that's being protested by owner Mark Cuban due to a very questionable call at the end of the game. Although this protest is technically just for one game, the guys discuss why this move from Cuban sends a bigger message to the NBA about its officiating lately. Tim Hardaway Jr. has emerged a key contributor to the Mavs' success this season, not only with his stats, but also with the passion and energy he brings on a nightly basis. Hardaway Jr.'s shooting hasn't just been 'good' this season, it's been 'elite.' The guys briefly dive into those numbers before pondering what a potential long-term extension would look like for him this offseason. Thanks for listening!

Mavs officially sign Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Luka Doncic is back, baby!
This week, the Mavs Step Back welcomed special guest Ben Collins to the show. Ben is a reporter for NBC News, but more importantly (at least in our opinion), he is also just as big of a Mavs enthusiast as the rest of us. The episode starts out with the guys reacting to the Mavs officially signing Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and how he could help strengthen Dallas' playoff push. The conversation then shifts to how the Mavs have essentially 'treaded water' with all the injuries they've been dealt, but that they'll need to pick it up significantly in the second half of the season to solidify their playoff standing in the Western Conference. The pod then wraps up with the guys giving a brief preview of the Mavs game against the Kings on Wednesday night, which will be Luka Doncic's first game back after missing the last seven due to an ankle injury. Thanks for listening!

Mavs' inactivity at the trade deadline, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, surviving injuries, and Step Back Mailbag!
This week, Dalton and Matt recap the NBA trade deadline and discuss why the Mavs ultimately decided not to do anything, and whether or not that was the right decision, given the team's needs. From there, the guys talk about how injuries have set this team back this season (and how they desperately need the All-Star break), and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist potentially joining the Mavs from the buyout market. Finally, we take some time at the end to answer your Step Back Mailbag questions that were submitted to DallasBasketball.com. Thanks for listening!

Remembering Kobe, Mavs' Struggles at Home, and One Final Trade Deadline Preview
Dalton and Matt start out this episode by remembering the late, great Kobe Bryant, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash Sunday along with his daughter and seven others. The guys talk about how they never liked Kobe as a Mavs' opponent in the first half of his career, but softened their feelings on him towards the end with him and Dirk Nowitzki showing each other mutual respect every time they got the chance. From there, the guys then discuss why it is that the Mavs struggle at home this season, yet thrive on the road. And with just one week remaining until the NBA trade deadline... how are we feeling about the lack of Mavs rumors right now? Thanks for listening!

This week, Dalton (@dalton_trigg) and Matt Galatzan (@MattGalatzan) were joined by Mavs.com's Bobby Karalla (@BobbyKaralla) to re-hash the Mavs' 110-107 loss to the Clippers. In that game, Dallas unfortunately lost Dwight Powell for the rest of the season with a ruptured achilles. The guys discuss not only how losing Powell could change the Mavs' offense, but also how it could affect the team's NBA trade deadline plans as well. Want to know which potential playoff matchups the guys think would favor the Mavs in April? You get all that and much more in Episode 53. Thanks for listening!

Mavs fall to Knicks at home, 106-102 - What went wrong here?
In this "instant reaction" pod, Dalton and Matt recap the Dallas Mavericks' disheartening 106-102 loss to the New York Knicks on Friday night at American Airlines Center. Despite Luka Doncic's massive 38/14/10 triple double, there was no sugar-coating this one. It was simply a bad loss in the Mavs' eighth game of the season, and the guys believe that the issues at hand start with head coach Rick Carlisle and his inconsistent starting lineups and rotations. The underrated importance of Seth Curry and Delon Wright for the Mavs in 2019-2020
Dalton and Matt start off by recapping Mavs Media Day and the opening week of training camp. There is a renewed since of hope and confidence all around this Dallas Mavericks franchise, and the guys dig in to all the reasons for that. The next topic revolves around Luka Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis, and what those two must do statistically to be All-Stars this season. The episode wraps up with an in-depth discussion on the seemingly underrated importance of Seth Curry and Delon Wright for the Mavs this season. Curry is an elite three-point shooter, and Wright could potentially be an elite perimeter defender. The Mavs missed out on their 3-and-D target, Danny Green, this past offseason, but is it possible that they got two guys, who can do some of the same things as Green, for the price of one? All of our thought are here in Episode 38. Thanks for listening!

On this episode, Dalton and Matt start off by giving their thoughts on where ESPN ranked Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis on its NBA Top 100 list, while also raising a red flag on a few non-Mavs players in the rankings as well. Two weeks ago, the guys talked about Sports Illustrated Top 100 list as well, so they compare the two lists as a whole to try to determine which is more accurate. From there, the conversation shifts to the NBA starting to crack down teams by requiring them to get the certified height measurements (with no shoes on) and ages of all players on the roster. We're so sorry, J.J. Barea. We still love you, though.

After that, they move on to actual basketball topics, starting with Luka Doncic looking great in the recently leaked footage from BallisLife.com of him playing pickup games with a handful of current Mavs... but also an intriguing former Maverick, Monta Ellis. From there, the guys debate whether or not the Mavs should extend a training camp invite to Monta, or maybe even someone like Joe Johnson. The wraps up with Dalton and Matt predicting which player will end up being the Mavs third leading scorer this upcoming season. As always, thanks for listening!

On this week's episode, Dalton (@dalton_trigg) and Matt (@MattGalatzan) had the pleasure of chopping it up with Dallas Mavericks forward Justin Jackson on a variety of different topics. These topics include: why Justin wears No. 44, gaining muscle and transforming his body this summer, his goals for the 2019-2020 Mavs season (Playoffs?), learning from Dirk Nowitzki in a short period of time, and much, much more. Before Justin joined the guys on this episode, Dalton and Matt revisit the Mavs schedule release so they can compare their predictions for the upcoming season. From there, they talk about how the Mavs will matchup with the star-studded Los Angeles teams, plus why it's dumb to complain about double teams in pickup basketball games. Thanks for listening!

Mavs schedule breakdown/predictions, plus a Step Back ticket giveaway for opening night
In the episode, Dalton Trigg (@dalton_trigg) flies solo for a "mini-pod" to break down and discuss the Mavs 2019-2020 season schedule month-by-month. Dalton gives his win/loss predictions for each month, totaling them up at the end to see where he believes the Mavs will sit in the standings when the dust settles in April. In a sense, it's very early for full season predictions, and health will play a big factor this season, but we know that at least one Step Back host is optimistic about the Mavs' chances this season. Dalton then goes on to talk about the Step Back's ticket giveaway for the Mavs opening night game against the Wizards, giving full details on how you can enter for your chance to win. Thanks for listening, MFFL!

On this episode, Dalton Trigg (@dalton_trigg) and Matt Galatzan (@MattGalatzan) talk about another disappointing Mavs free agency (so far) and how the team got to point of waiting multiple days for a decision from Danny Green, who is, in turn, waiting on Kawhi Leonard's decision. Charlotte's Kemba conundrum and how it leaves the door open for Dallas
Dalton Trigg (@dalton_trigg) and Matt Galatzan (@MattGalatzan) are back with... you guessed it... even more Kemba Walker talk, given some recent speculation from a Charlotte Observer writer who thinks the Hornets should pass on paying him the super max. This is a scenario the guys have discussed ever since it was announced that Kemba made All-NBA 3rd Team, and if it comes to pass, it leaves the door open for 'Kemba to Dallas' to become a reality. From there, the guys talk about a Mavs / D'Angelo Russell 'exclusive exclusive' from Mike Fisher, a three-way trade idea that would land Blake Griffin with the Mavs, salary dump ideas with the OKC Thunder and Dirk Nowitzki's celebrity baseball game. In the second half of this episode, the guys welcome on Richard Stayman (@MavsDraft) to discuss a ton of different names for the Mavs to target with the 37th pick in the second round of the NBA Draft in June.
