Bryan and Stephanie have an enthusiastic conversation with Community Response Coordinator, Heather Stordy (ASD-E), Paul Toner (United Way) and Mayor of Riverview, Andrew LeBlanc (Atlantic Wellness) but the launch of the new Riverview Youth Network. The Network is looking to engage youth in Riverview in community action and to respond to needs in the community that have evolved and risen in the last 1.5 years

We are honoured to have had the opportunity to have this important conversation with Elder Donna Augustine from Elisipogtog and our Indigenous Education Coordinator, Tracy Landry. Donna and Tracy talk to us about the upcoming National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, on September 30th and what it means this year following the horrific recoveries of thousands of Indigenous children in unmarked graves on the properties of former Residential Schools. Donna talks to us about the history of this land, her family and the children who taken from their families to attend these schools. We encourage students and staff to wear Orange on September 30th, in recognition of Phyllis Webstad's experience and in recognition of Every Child Matters.

This is a very exciting episode of What's Happening! Bryan and Stephanie travelled to Dorchester Consolidated School to record using the school's very own production studio! We interviewed Principal Gordie Kline, Teacher Stuart Murray and students Chase Betts and Charlie Grantmeyer about just some of the exciting projects that are coming out of the production lab and we also explored the school's Aquaponics Lab which will eventually be producing fresh food for the Dorchester community! Aubrey is back! This time he is filling us in on the incredible Fill The Bus Food Drive! This is the 21st annual Fill The Bus in ASD-E and like everything this year, it's getting a COVID overhaul! This year, Fill The Bus is an Virtual Giving Campaign! Donations are being collected through School Cash Online and will go directly to our School Food Programs through our partners at The Food Depot Alimentaire. You can donate until December 18th and help us make sure our kids are learning with full bellies and fueled brains. Listen to here to learn more! 

Bryan and Stephanie chat with Mountain View School Kindergarten Teacher, Lisa Graves, about Outdoor Learning! Mountain View School (and many others in our District) have incorporated Outdoor Classrooms as part of their everyday learning! Students do everything from exploring their environment, recording their findings, science experiments, math problems and literacy all in an outdoor space. Listen here to learn more! 

Bryan and Stephanie Chat with Directors of Schools Pamela Wilson and Anne Bernard Bourgeois about their roles in ASD-E as supervisors and supporters for school administration (Principals and VPs) and teachers aspiring to be in administration roles. Bryan and Stephanie chat with Caroline Gingles, the Director of our International Student Welcome Centre! The Welcome Centre welcomes all of our newcomer students and their families who want to register for school in ASD-E. The students participate in a language assessment, literacy assessment and numeracy assessment so they are set up with the appropriate supports and resources to ensure they have a positive and welcoming transition into their new school.  Caroline shares the number of newcomer students currently registered in our District, some facts about all the languages you can hear at ASD-E schools and some of the awesome activities schools do to allow students to share and experience each others' cultures and traditions! 

Bryan and Stephanie chat with Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator, Jacqui Eadle! The OHSC is a new position in our District this year, and what better time to jump on board than during a pandemic! Jacqui tells us about how she helped schools prepare for this exceptional school year and how she supports schools to ensure they are always operating as safely as possible. Bryan and Stephanie chat with ASD-E's Community Engagement Coordinator, Heather Stordy about all things Community Schools! Our Community Schools Team is a vital part of ASD-E; they serve as a link between our schools and their communities and provide connections to programs and opportunities that enhance student learning both in and out of the classroom! Community Schools has been part of our District since 2006 and has evolved exponentially during that time. During the recent shut down, the Team was part of orchestrating more than 40,000 lunches in 92 days for students who normally rely on school food programs. Take a listen and find out about all the exciting experiences Community Schools helps provide and also how you can contact your Community Schools Coordinator yourself!

Gregg has been the Superintendent since 2012 and like so many things about 2020, he's never seen a school start up like this one! Bryan, Stephanie and Gregg chat about all the work that went into returning to school amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, the silver linings that can be found through finding our way through this challenge and how the school system will continue to change to accommodate our "new normal."
