17: Reproductive Psychiatry: Dr. Jessica Obeysekare + Dr. Neha Hudepohl

Tune in for the latest episode of our 'Strong As A Mother' Podcast as we hear from Dr. Jessica Obeysekare and Dr. Neha Hudepohl. They are both reproductive psychologists in the Upstate, helping to take care of women's mental health needs at the time of reproductive transition.

Have you ever heard of reproductive psychology?

The majority of the field focuses on prenatal and postpartum care. Helping women with the transition into motherhood, as well as those battling infertility and/or pregnancy loss.

Both Dr. Obeysekare and Dr. Hudepohl are passionate about helping women overcome the moderate to severe symptoms of Anxiety and OCD that may accompany pregnancy and postpartum. Their goal is to spread awareness that there is help for these kinds of situations and life challenges and allow themselves to experience the beauty of motherhood. Society has painted a picture of what new moms and parenthood are expected to look like, which can both internally and externally affect a women's view of motherhood.

Beginning with an evaluation, they can dive into understanding and identifying one's particular symptoms, moderate to severe, and tailor their services to each individual woman, to begin treatment.  Within their treatment, they preach self-care and helping women to understand that sleep needs to be a priority. Every new mother has experienced the overwhelming feelings of transitioning into parenthood and sleepless nights.

These two women are changing the world and how we overcome pregnancy and postpartum mental difficulties during this transitional period of life. There is help out there.

If you are local to the Upstate, you can schedule with them via the Connect Center at Prisma Health.

If you are in need of further assistance, you can visit www.postpartum.net
