8s in Relationship (Season Opener)
I guarantee this has happened to you before: You're having a nice chat with someone and they find out you're an 8 and they exclaim in surprise: "No way! I never would have guessed." And you are left wondering what exactly they expected from an 8, because you're just being you...
This is the season we maybe find out what the disconnect is. What are THEY seeing that we aren't. What are WE missing. In this episode, we kick us off with an educated guess as to what each type will say we get right and wrong in relationship.
Ep. 54 Carrie Forgets to Breathe
Ep. 53 Tori's Gush is Showing (And she doesn't like it)
This tritype might be the one that is most at war with it's soft gooey center. (One of you once called it a gooey lava cake). They are very very aware it's there, and very very unhappy at the idea it might show. And so, in many ways, the sheild they use to protect others, they use to protect themselves too. In the words of our podcast tagline: "Letting you inside the armour" is the work of all of us 8s.
Ep. 52 Isaac Lives inside an Abyssal Cosmic Playground
Ep. 51 Eryn & Jo {Part 2}
Ep. 50 Eryn & Jo {Part 1}
Ep. 49 Megan scares people in elevators
Ep. 48 Yentl isn't Gentle
Ep. 47 Jules is very Virago
Ep. 46 Amanda is a Bougie Bitch
Ep. 45 Neema Queen of Revelry
Ep. 44 Rachel has Little Lady Syndrome
Ep. 43 Carolyn is Like Jello
Carolyn. Tritype unknown (because it's COMPLICATED). She’s an adoptive mom that said yes to all the hard things that go along with that, and found a way to turn Jello into the perfect analogy for how 8s offer safety and help to the ones who need it most.

Ep. 42: Tereza Thinks Guinea pigs are Badass
Tereza. Tritype 846. Triple reactive and about as intense as they come, this is the tritype that gets thrown the most shade. More than any other 8s, they SAY THE THING. They are always tracking inconsistencies and falseness around them, and when they spot it they let us all know. This makes a a lot of people A LOT of uncomfortable. But, sometimes a thing just has to be said, and Tereza will say it! Including this: "Lions aren't brave. It's not true. They have teeth and claws. They can kill things easily. But, Guinea pigs..."

Ep. 40 Heather the Ultrarunner
Heather. Tritype 835. Known as the quickest problem solvers, but the least in touch with their feelings.
Heather’s Bio: Growing up, I spent most of my time in the 5 zone. However, I did learn early that people didn't want me to be "part of the group", so I chose early not to "fit in" and pursue my own interests. I'm a moderate jack of most trades. I'm not really great at one thing, but I am eager to explore all options or challenges. // ISTP - "like sticking jello to a wall". Not only do I not like to conform, I enjoy several different single sports [ultra-running, yoga, cross country, singles tennis]. I thought this was mainly because of my introvert side, but it could also likely be I prefer to match my own energy. I get frustrated and confused when people can't keep up with my energy. Even when I don't think I can find any, I force it to happen, so I can fulfill my 7 wing of adventure. // Protector in social work, helping people advocate for themselves. In each chance I get I teach them to "fish", so that they can more independent and learn to fight on their own eventually. I hold a conflict resolution certificate and am a certified mediator, volunteering with local courts. This is where and how I discovered the enneagram. // Faults. I stir the pot, even after I'm told not to stir the pot. Learning when not to with loved ones, but I still "die" on several hills because I'm stubborn. I'm growing drastically and interested in continuing on this path towards a healthier me in a 2 by listening to this awesome podcast and others recommended. . I will fight for those I love any day without rest! 💙

Ep. 39 Samantha Feels her Feelings
Sam. Tritype 826-- no wait, 846. This is an example of how it takes time and work to figure out your tritype. When we first interviewed Samantha, she attributed her drive to help people to 2, But her knack (and affinity) for identifying and expressing her own needs and feelings gives her a 4 feel. It's ok to try on tritype for awhile before you find home. But keep digging. It's worth it.

Ep. 38 Tess the Ontological Terrorist
Tess. Tritype 845. And she pretty much lives to tear society's sacred things into their smallest parts and poke at them. That's what happens when the 4 and 5 play with the 8. Known as the darkest, most contradictory and perplexing tritype. Tess was a fascinating interview. Note: I reference one of the co-hosts of "The Big Hormone Enneagram" because he is of the same tritype.

Ep. 37 Lauv Eats Weird Vegan Grass
Lauv. Tritype 847. Like the rest of us in this tritype, she's a deep well of deep depths with a lot to say and plenty of quirks, such as crying over mushrooms and being allergic to the cold. Literally. Lauv's instagram account: Redamanxia: Vegan recipes in her "Taste" highlight

Ep. 36 Alicia the Healer holding a Paintbrush
Alicia. Tritype 836. She embodies what it means to care about justice and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. She's also an example of how when things get hard, we don't stay stuck, but say yes to change-- even big change. Check our Alicia's new art studio: www.aliciahauffstudio.com -.

Jess. Tritype 873. Eryn's tritype twin. After having listened in on these two, I'm beginning to think this combo creates a high likeability factor. Also, max efficiency.

Ep. 34 Sarah the Seer
Sarah. Tritype 852. If Keri was a shot of caffeine, Sarah is a warm ginger tea. Both 8's, both grounded like ancient stone, but with wildly different ways of showing it. Sarah watches and waits and SEES more than most. And then she speaks life..

Ep. 23 (INTERVIEW) Jim Zartman on Health
4:00: Forced transformational moments. "I did not do it on purpose... I wouldn't have gone here willingly. It had to be forced on me."
7:30: Eight denial. "The starting point isn't to crack it all open, but to know it's safe to do so."
11:10 Betrayal. "It's such a visceral experience of violation [that the] 'You're dead to me' isn't a choice that's being made, it is as a reaction. It is something I notice after the fact."
13:00 What is Health? "Health is moving from the exaggeration to integration...
16:30 "A lot of times, for 8s, we don't move towards health until we experience pain."
18:05: Boundaries. How much do we put ourselves out there and take the hits? "Endlessly..." We have to decide if we want to become open or closed, and "I want to be really intentional that I am creating myself in [an open] direction..." And that will require "going back in" again and again, even if we don't want to.
21:00: Jim's poem Bless Them and Go On. "We cannot blame or shame them... they carried you to where they themselves could not go. In kindness turn and thank them. Bless them with all your love. Bless them, and go on." An invitation to move towards, rather than we held prisoner by what was behind.
24:40: Physical health is tied to emotional health. A discussion of the book "Driven" by Bessel van der Kolk
29:00: The tricky thing about 8s and meditation. Jim recommends The Wilhof Breathing Method
33:00: Integrating the three centers.
36:40: Where are we heading? "You are the best expert on you."
43:30: The value of taking ownership of our stuff and being held accountable in different ways.
44:40: Knowing we are deeply ok in THIS moment. Changing the saying Fake it till you make it' to 'Do it unnaturally until you do it naturally.' "I know if I stick with it it'll become more natural... I'm not there YET. (But I'm moving towards it)"

Ep. 20 Self Sufficiency (I don't need you)
Self Sufficiency is the allergic reaction we 8s have to being needy. We've worked hard to stand firmly on our own two feet, using a bunch of confirmation bias along the way that people let us down. This is one of those "shadow layers" that has an undeniably useful side to it. Listen in as we sort out the blessing from the curse.
