040: Elethë Monk on the audacity of relationships - familial, non-monogamous and platonic
Trigger warning: Child sexual abuse
Welcome Elethë to the final episode of Season Two!! From non-monogamy, fluid sexuality, great platonic loves and familial loves it does not surprise me that Elly's audacious experiences are so deeply rooted in her relationships.
We discussed familial co-dependency and how unraveling the complexities of this relationship in particular allowed it to strengthen and is now the leading dynamic in Elly's life. I'm in actual awe of Elly's ability to set boundaries even with the people she loves the most.
We chewed the fat of her relationships with mother, lover and everyone else that comes into Elly's orbit. You can't ignore El's energy. And her pensive awareness of humanity on the micro and macro.
She's 5 years younger than me and yet has been one of the greatest teachers of my life thus far. I return the favour with life experiences but her outlook and uncompromising ethical system has inspired me for a long time.
It has been an honour to bring you this second season. I've interviewed people I admire, I aspire to emulate, I know and I love. All of the conversations have left me thinking and learning. It's been a dream to host this podcast and I thank you for each and every download and share. It means the world. More will be coming... I also have a newsletter and an upcoming YouTube. 039: Schisandra the Drag Queen and naturopath
Season Two, Episode Nineteen: Schisandra @schisandra aka Zach Gallagher @prozach
I love the vibrancy of episodes with my friends. This is one of them. Zach is a beautiful, fun, raunchy and vivacious spirit. He is also a person who accidentally on purpose fell into drag. Now he hosts epic events in Sydney that celebrate the LGBTIQ community but are open to everyone. Hearing about his hilarious experiences of wig glue in his chest hair, heavy wigs and chainmail dresses but also his gentle consideration of others' experiences is incredibly poignant. An epic episode... I hope you'll enjoy. In fact I know you will.
I had a lot to say in the intro this week because it has been a really deep week in both of my homes, the UK and Australia. My thoughts are with everyone grieving because of the recent violence.

038: Huck Hastings, musician and artist on self discovery
Season 2, Episode 18: Huck Hastings @huckhastings
A visionary. A beautiful artist. A sensational musician. Harry, aka Huck Hastings, is a conscientious creative who considers life and experience and perspective in all of his work. A poet and lyricist primarily, Harry launched his debut album THIS. WEEK. What an honour to hear about his journey of self discovery and what has carried him to this point on his creative journey. We discussed how being disruptive represented our disease with ourselves but the way that has levelled out through maturity and life experience. Harry also shared the many hats one wears as a creative - something I am certainly learning myself through this podcast. Overall this conversation is a thoughtful, pensive and warm interaction. Harry's album is heavenly and you're lucky listening to music isn't a one-at-a-time activity because I'd be hogging this divine record.

037: Lotte Jeffs on LGBTQ parenting and being an Editor-In-Chief
Season Two, Episode 17: Lotte Jeffs @lottejeffs
Talking to a journalist, published author, podcaster and mother is kind of like talking to a version of myself whose dreams have all come true! Recording this episode was a real highlight as hearing the inside scoop of a career you've dreamt of is an exciting opportunity. It was made even more wonderful because Lotte is so incredibly candid and honest about the personal experience behind the cool job titles. From acting editor-in-chief of ELLE magazine to being co-host of an incredible podcast called 'Some Families' Lotte wears many hats but the most coveted is her role as mother. Sharing her experience of same-sex parenting and, indeed, the journey to becoming parents, Lotte's podcast is generous, informative and inclusive.
The conversation offers many moments of nostalgia as our paths coincidentally crossed twice at the ELLE Style Awards and even earlier at a Rihanna concert! Listen to hear about dinner with Beth Ditto, ice water plunging and how fashion can help us put our most audacious foot forward.

Welcome Abadesi Osunsade to the podcast! An incredible force of nature and such an eloquent voice about the horrendous homogenous state of affairs in the tech world. She has founded her own company Hustle Crew which is a vehicle to create change in the workplace and provides you with the tools to confidently address the systemic inequities. She also has her own podcast which she co-hosts with the equally engaging Michael - their show is called Techish and is a lot of fun! Trust me! Katie has had quite the colourful journey and it is so calming to hear her talk us through it even when she recounted dancing on podiums to Kylie Minogue! Her story takes us from DJing all over the world, feeling lonely in Barcelona and then boldly prioritising her mental and physical health and seeking healing with the backdrop of Bali's beauty. 034: Ciara Zelmerlöw (Janson) actress and mummy talks parenting and miscarriages
Season Two, Episode Fourteen: Ciara Zelmerlow (Janson) @ciarajzelmerlow
Ciara is the ultimate multi-hyphenate: she is an actor (famed for her role as Nicole Owen on Hollyoaks), a voiceover artist who also creates bespoke bedtime stories, an insanely talented painter, a mummy and an authentic and honest voice on social media. While I admire that she balances all of these roles it is her uniquely open and warm voice on socials that I think is the most audacious. Specifically Ciara has broached topics that are more commonly considered to be private. By sharing her experience with miscarriages Ciara has opened up a much needed conversation that has united people in their shared journeys. Dig into this beautiful episode to hear about this, her acting journey, family life, health anxiety and many other fun topics!

032: Jenna Nicholas, CEO of Impact Experience on turning allyship into action
Season Two, Episode Twelve: Jenna Nicholas @jennanicholas1
From tales of high-fiving Nobel Peace Prize winner, Desmond Tutu, to teaching in China, Jenna is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Within the Baha'i faith of which Jenna is a member there is a concept that she cited to me: "Strive that your actions day by day may become beautiful prayers" and Jenna is the perfect example of this. This is exemplified in her organisation that she founded called Impact Experience, which works through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion and addresses inequities through economic justice. This is an angle I’ve not previously investigated that deeply. I felt so privileged to learn from Jenna. Let me know what you learn. Links to Jenna's work and Ted Talks below.

031: Su Tuttle ethical business owner
There are so many “health trends” it can feel overwhelming and even confusing about which route to go down or invest in. ‘Cos lots of ‘em aren’t cheap either. It is an actual minefield trying to figure out who to trust and which expert to follow.
Su takes a really gentle and fundamentally kind strategy with her wellness businesses. She balances both her ethical worldview with her business acumen, which I consider to be sensationally audacious. The norm is to forget about morality to ‘get ahead’. But not Su. As the founder of a wellness studio, she encourages people to slow down and take time out to care for themselves. The studios are equipped with state-of-the-art full-spectrum infrared saunas and offer holistic health practices. Foile is her second baby and a concept store that’s home to refillable skincare and beauty products.
When there is a sense of overwhelm or disappointment with all the regulations and health threats happening the world over, I invite you to take an hour for yourself. Go for a walk, unwind and listen to the calming tale of Su’s audacious experiences and her guide to non-woowoo alternative health practices.

029: Turning Thirty and Building Success Scaffolding
Season Two, Episode Nine: Hannah Rankine @hanjanran discusses turning thirty and shares how to build success scaffolding
Being the first full episode of the year I decided to do a little solo ep and talk about my experience turning thirty, what it meant for me and why it was such a significant birthday. I also shared some tools on how to make a plan that will help us to achieve even our biggest goals. I apologise greatly for being the worlds biggest dork and making some major dad jokes but if you can push through the cringe then you may want to grab a notebook or your phone to take some notes.
I share 7 key learnings from my life so far.
I talk through 7 totally doable steps to make your goal a reality this year.
At the end I offer one final life hack.
If you can't take notes while walking (then bloody fair enough, mate!) and want me to send you a step-by-step guide from this episode then email me hannah@hanjanran.com or message me on instagram @hanjanran

028 CONTINUED: Alice Aedy's Six Questions
A little bonus ep to kick us off in 2021! Often the recordings are far too long for one episode and I somehow manage to strategically cut them down to a digestible size but this one I could not! So I decided to split it into two and give you a sweet but much shorter bonus episode where Alice answers my six questions that I end every episode with.
Make sure you listen to the full conversation which is episode number 028 and is the one before this one!
If you have a spare thirty seconds please do rate, review and subscribe. Helps me enormously and also allows you to never miss an episode... score!
028: Alice Aedy, Climate Activist and Documentary Photographer
Season Two, Episode Eight: Alice Aedy @aliceaedy
This year has been many things but it has also given us time to consider the reprioritisation us Westeners need to have. We've seen the climate crisis up close with fires in Australia. We've seen how a slower pace has allowed Mother Nature to heal. And we've all been shown the intersectionality of environmentalism with human rights. This episode means so much to me as I imperfectly strive to show up as a more kind version of myself, and I know I'm not the only one tryin'! So with that being said I am genuinely honoured to have Alice Aedy on the show today.
I am a huge admirer of Alice's work as an activist and her creative work as a film maker and photographer. I am inspired by how Alice turns her emotional engagement into action. That being said Alice is so down to earth about the struggle to living a fully sustainable life, the temptations of holidays and cute clothes. She is not here to shame or blame but holds her hands up and says let's imperfectly move forward together.

027: Liz Beardsell, creator of Diary, She Wrote podcast
026: Aimee Aroha, decolonising birth mentor and mother
Season Two, Episode Six: Aimee Aroha @Ripsnorter
Aimee is an intuitive transpersonal mentor and birth mentor who calls on her indigenous heritage and her ancestors to guide her and educate her as she integrates family life and work. Aimee never fails to speak extremely eloquently about her experience of reconnecting with her Māori heritage and culture and discusses rituals I hadn’t even considered that need to be decolonised. I’ve been a long time admirer of her poetic explanations of the connection with land, her empowered outlook on the female experience and her audacious life out in the elements so it was a true joy to get to ask her some of these questions. I'm incredibly grateful for Aimee's time to speak on these personal topics.

025: Clare Seal founder of My Frugal Year and author
Season Two, Episode Five: Clare Seal @myfrugalyear
Clare explained what led her to share her reality of debt and financial insecurity online. Through her honesty and relatable journey she accumulated a following which soon turned into a community. Together with her followers Clare has reset her relationship with money and spending. Beyond her own direct experience Clare was able to provide insight into the systemic and deep rooted issues that fuel the damaging relationship people have with money. We did discuss solution based tactics too and Clare shared a delightful audacious experience that is both surprising and heart warming!

024: Rose Romain, mental health and recovery coach, and Louisahhh Pillot, DJ and musician, are hosts of 'Sober Sex' podcast
Season Two, Episode Four: Rose Romain @roseromain and Louisa Pillot @louisahhh hosts of @fuckyeahsobersex
Rose and Louisa have so much infectious joy pouring out of them. I hadn’t ever spoken to them before this interview but I immediately felt like I’d known them both for years. My favourite thing about this episode is how the conversation navigates some very deep, serious and even dark topics and yet is full to bursting with laughter the whole way through. We talk about addiction a fair bit, as all three of us have our own experiences with it, through the lens that being sober has fuelled all of our most audacious decisions. The most audacious thing I’ve ever known is Love. The three of us discussed the power of Love in our lives be it loving ourselves (fucking radical), loving others (scary) and receiving love (a life's work).
We each ended up sharing about some impactful music and it is here for your reference:
Special recovery songs
You were right by RÜFÜS DU SOL (Hannah’s choice)
(Far From) Home by Tiga (Louisa’s)
Crazy by Gnarls Barkley (Louisa’s)
Get Innocuous by LCD soundsystem (Louisa’s)
The weeknd album House of Balloons (Rose’s)
Atlanta Rap - the whole genre (Rose’s) [lol]

022: Aleks Trkulja sex therapist and mental health counsellor
Season Two, Episode Two: Aleks Trkulja @_thepleasurecentre
Going from studying psychology to choosing a job helping sad vaginas, Aleks was called to step into her own audacious spirit to pursue a slightly unexpected career. Both her insight on sexuality and her own journey into sex therapy are enlightening and empowering. When Aleks spoke on the complex societal narrative around safety in sexual experiences I was legitimately schooled. As usual we covered a topic that is multifaceted and layered but integral to our human experience.

021: Hannah Rankine is interviewed by special guest Megan Rankine (her mum)
Season Two, Episode One: Hannah Rankine @hanjanran with special guest Megan Rankine @meagsterstar
To kick start the second season we have a very special episode. You guys loved the episode with my mum last season (proof is in all the messages I am still getting about it and the download figures) so I dragged her back on the show but this time she is interviewing me! We discuss key audacious moments in my life, which inevitably takes us down some rabbit holes such as sexual harassment, personal identity and career movements. So excited to be back with twenty more episodes filled with beautiful conversations.
I referenced being on another podcast where I go into a lot more detail on my sobriety story which you can hear on The Echo Chamber Podcast on all the usual podcasting platforms.

019: Robyn Hyacinth explains social justice from her lens as a human rights lawyer
Season One, Episode Nineteen: Robyn Hyacinth @robynhyacinth
Robyn speaks from her lens as a human rights lawyer. We discussed intersectionalism and the effects of titillating but violent entertainment on our psyche. Robyn spoke on the power of using our values to direct us and how we navigate the world, politically and more personally. Epic stuff. Robyn is someone who I deeply admire and feel so fortunate to call my friend. I never leave a conversation with Robyn feeling anything less than enthusiastic and inspired. There is something about Robyn that makes her extremely accepting of all the facets of a person and simultaneously expects the best from them (me) - it is pretty incredible. She applies this vibe to everything she does including the way she navigates her job as a human rights lawyer. I'm in constant awe and to pick her brain about what her journey took to become a h-r lawyer was very cool.

018: The Echo Chamber redefine success, talk side hustles and identity
Season One, Episode Eighteen: Jade and Ez of The Echo Chamber Podcast @theechochamberpod
The Echo Chamber is one of my absolute favourite podcasts. Jade and Ez who host the show keep it so real week after week and discuss all the topics that I do with my own girlfriends. I always feel like I'm eavesdropping on their most sacred conversations and am left mulling over my own opinion on whatever it is they've been chatting about that week. I'm thrilled that I got to chat with them about some of these topics but also it was really powerful to discuss what it is like pursuing a side hustle, the sacrifices involved and how the whole process continuously reveals more personal uncovering of ourselves.
As always Jade and Ez were both super honest and forthcoming. I genuinely loved listening back to this episode and refocusing on my *why*, what success means to *me*... and working hard on my morning routine thanks to this conversation!

017: Tash Crosby, founder of Talk Peach, a gynaecological cancer charity, shares her experience with the diagnosis
Season One, Episode Seventeen: Tash Crosby @talk_peach
September is Gynaecological Awareness Month! Did you know there are FIVE gynaecological cancers? I did NOT.
To kick off the month I was fortunate enough to spend an hour chatting with gynaecological cancer charity founder, Tash Crosby. The episode features Tash’s experience with having to fight for her diagnosis and what it was like getting through cancer treatment and coming out the other side. Tash started her amazing charity when she received her own diagnosis. With terrifyingly low survival rates Tash describes herself as a gynie cancer unicorn! The primary goals for Talk Peach are education and awareness, support, advice and fundraising research.

015: Alexis Hill shares her experiences with death, after-life and spirituality
Season One, Episode Fifteen: Alexis Hill
This week’s guest is my spiritual mentor, Alexis Hill. We talked about what our audaciously self-defined faith looks like and the power of believing in the universe. Death is a topic that we don’t discuss a lot in our culture. Alexis spoke in detail about her interaction with those who have had near death experiences and those who have died through her first hand after-life experiences. It’s not something I’ve ever encountered and find it fascinating to hear her tell these tales. Where I can relate is the benefit that a spiritual practice has brought to my life.

014: Megan Rankine: the woman who made me audacious
Season One, Episode Fourteen: Megan Rankine @meagsterstar (my mum!!)
This week I was privileged to interview someone who has had nine lives and a different fashion statement for each of them. She is a huge inspiration of mine and the person that fuels my audacious spirit. Welcome to the episode where I interview my mum!
Megan, my mother, grew up in Australia and we talked about her childhood as the first of five audacious moments in her life. Defying gender roles, moving overseas, challenging expectations on “women of a certain age”… that’s just the beginning of the colourful, varied and audacious experiences that mum has had. And we are so fortunate that she generously shared some of them on the episode.
Go give my mum a follow on the gram, she’s the most spectacularly dressed sixty year old, who is way more clued up about music than I am and can run farther and faster than me and my mates.

013: Disha Daswaney is a trend forecaster in beauty and fashion sectors and she explains how and what trends she's uncovered.
Season One, Episode Thirteen: Disha Daswaney @disha_daswaney
Disha is a trend forecaster in the fashion, beauty and lifestyle sectors. This episode is a truly fascinating insight into visibility and representation in terms of how brands can do it with impact and how they can (and do) fail.
How Disha came to be able to forecast trends is also an interesting tale made up of a very international education and background. Disha is as insightful as she is charming. I learned a lot talking to her and believe you will too by listening to this episode.

012: Hannah Rankine hosts a special episode discussing fear, purpose, self-esteem and spirituality
Season One, Episode Twelve: Hannah Rankine @hanjanran (me!!)
Last week was such an epic conversation that I want to give it a moment to shine. It was a long episode and appreciate it may take two sittings to get through. That being said I decided to do a shorter episode this week so you've got 40 minutes of me!
This one is just me... no guest! I used a Claude Monet quote and a daily meditation reading to spark off my stream of words. The result is a personal discussion on fear versus love, the power of service, purpose, self-esteem and ego and spirituality.
The quote from Monet goes as follows: “It is on strength of observation and reflection that one finds a way, so we must dig and delve unceasingly.”

011: Daniel Edmund speaks on Edward Colston, the BLM movement and toxic masculinity
Season One, Episode Eleven: Daniel Edmund @danieledmund
This interview, this conversation, genuinely moved me so much. Race and gender, toxic masculinity, identity and mental health are all topics I consider regularly and care about deeply. That being said, I learned so much from Daniel. I love this episode.
Daniel opened the speeches at Bristol's Black Lives Matter protest that has since received global coverage thanks to the removal of the Edward Colston statue. It is this same spirit, passion and drive that has compelled Daniel to launch his own podcast called Race and Gender.
His perspective on the intersection of race and gender is insightful and necessary. The social-enterprise he co-founded has progressed his nuanced understanding of masculinity, the confines that society puts onto men and how that negatively effects people in day-to-day life. Daniel is extremely honest and vulnerable as he talks of his own journey with teenage grief due to not feeling accepted. A lot of insight and fuel to want to make positive change.
ALSO!! DANIEL HAS HIS OWN PODCAST OUT NOW ON SPOTIFY! It's called 'Race & Gender Unfiltered by Daniel Edmund'. Support Daniel's incredible work by going and giving it a listen. https://open.spotify.com/show/4tCRg4mwEUBAhp8COgdfay?si=qGXb7k0XTKKrnu9f1kI_NA

010: Amber Sisson talks period poverty and co-founding a charity
Season One, Episode Ten: Amber Sisson @ambersiss
Amber Sisson joined me on the podcast to discuss period poverty and co-founding a charity, gender equality in corporate environments as well as the intersection of spirituality and activism as they present themselves in her own life. I appreciated discussing the role social media does and doesn't have with the Black Lives Matter movement and how we can focus on the positive energy that fuels us forward.
Amber has been a huge source of inspiration for me and someone I continuously bounce off. She balances integrity, authority, audacity and tolerance.

009: Dear White People (Part 2), we need to talk about our role in Anti-Racism
Season One, Episode Nine: Sarah Baker @_smb_______
Following on from Part 1 continuing to discuss the layers of systemic racism, fetishisation and tokenism, desegregation, abolishing the police and so much more.
Myself and fellow anti-racism activist, Sarah Baker, invite other white people to join us in dismantling our own deep rooted racist views, to unlearn and to do better in a bid to make positive change.
In this episode we both share anecdotes of previously ruining family dinners and how we strategise now to approach these conversations with compassion. Learn with us as we try to figure out how to keep discussing these issues amongst other white people and have them join us on the journey. As always, we are rigorously honest and absolutely imperfect and still learning! We spent time really talking about some solution based tools and actions.
We ultimately want oppression of Black people to be eradicated, but we can't wish for this to happen from our position of privilege and not do anything about it through action.
The purpose of this episode is to call you IN not call you out. We are breaking it down so that together we can understand a little better and do a lot more.
It is extremely important that we clarify we are not speaking on behalf of Black people, and we are in no way saying that we are authorities on racism. We are speaking as white people who have made our own mistakes in the past and are personally striving to do better and invite you to join us.

008: Dear White People, we need to talk about our part in Racism
Seas One, Episode Eight: Sarah Baker @_smb_______
This episode is not an interview but a conversation... and an invitation.
Myself and fellow anti-racism activist, Sarah Baker, invite other white people to join us in dismantling our own deep rooted racist views; to unlearn and to do better in a bid to make positive change. We ultimately want oppression of Black people to be eradicated, but we can't wish for this to happen from our position of privilege and not do anything about it through action.

It is extremely important that we clarify we are not speaking on behalf of Black people, and we are in no way saying that we are authorities on racism. We are speaking as white people who have made our own mistakes in the past and are personally striving to do better and invite you to join us.
So... this episode here's some of what we cover:
- the difference between not being racist and being anti-racist
- we admit our past mistakes where we were unintentionally racist, we talk about what we learnt in the moment and what we've unlearned since
- we define some of the vernacular used in the anti-racism conversations such as white privilege, white saviour complex and white fragility
- we discuss some common misconceptions that are mistakenly viewed as accusations on an individual rather than understood as part of a wider system of oppression
- we provide some evidence of what overt and systemic racism looks like here in the UK

007: Paige Aubort carved out space for women in a male dominated industry to empower and educate
Season One, Episode Seven: Paige Aubort
Paige Aubort is somewhat of a sensation in the Australian hospitality industry. Not only has she overcome personal battles to achieve the accolades and success that she has enjoyed but Paige turned her anxiety into fuel for her creative vision. This eventuated in her founding a non-for-profit organisation called Coleman's Academy that empowers and educates women in her industry, addressing issues from misogyny to mental health and career progression to creative inspiration.
Resources mentioned:
'The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles' Book by Steven Pressfield
The affirmation Paige references:
"I reserve the right to suck sometimes. You reserve the right to make accidentals and well intentioned mistakes. I reserve the right to make bad art. I reserve the right to do your best even if someone else is already doing it better because love does not depend on achievement or success. I am worthy of affection even if I fail and especially when I fail So go. Go let yourself make a beautiful mistake right now God speed"
