Leslie Duket, LCSW, OSW-C. Her career at Sutter began in 1996 as a second year MSW intern at Sutter Hospice, Sacramento. After completing her Master’s in Social Work. She became a per diem social worker for both Sutter Hospice and the Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento Social Work department. Leslie provided support and guidance to patients and family members surrounding end of life issues, as well as helped facilitate Bereavement support groups. In 2004, she stepped into the role of out-patient counselor at Sutter Cancer Center, She provides counseling services to patients and their families. In this role, she has facilitated both a Cancer Caregiver support group and a Cancer Patient support group. As well as partnering with the Art Therapy program to provide a Parent support group for the parents of children that attend the Children’s Art Therapy support.
Leslie has had the privilege of supervising Social Work interns and serving as the California representative for the Association of Oncology Social Work. In 2017, after years of being inspired by Sutter Medical Center’s facility dog program in the Child Life department, Leslie wrote a proposal to extend the facility dog program to the Sutter Cancer Center. When the proposal was approved, She completed the training process with Canine Companions for Independence and in September of 2019, welcomed Facility dog, Juvy into her practice.
She is excited about this new prospect of serving patients and their loved ones at the Sutter Roseville Cancer Center. In her spare time, she enjoys trail running, hiking and biking, as well as teaching Juvy new commands.

There are certain things that are essential to living a healthy, happy, meaningful life. Susan believes that yoga is one of them and had dedicated her life to sharing it with others. She has taught and practiced yoga for over 45 years. Susan specializes in adapting basic yoga poses to fit individual bodies and includes mindfulness, breathing, and concentration to connect a person more deeply to themselves. She approaches yoga in a gentle way and creates a class around who is present. She takes suggestions about what people need on any given day and weaves them together for a more inclusive experience. Susan establishes a safe atmosphere and encourages a sense of community for the class, even within personal exploration. Through breathing techniques, laughter, philosophy, poetry, and reverence, her classes are designed to give her students an accessible life skill that will serve them in their daily lives.

Kristie Howlett, MS, CNS, NP-C, AOCNP is an oncology and survivorship nurse practitioner with over 20 years of experience caring for those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She received her BSN from University of Nevada, Reno, her MS from University of California, San Francisco, and her post-master’s NP certificate from University of Massachusetts, Boston. Her focus has always been to take a holistic approach to caring for patients. She is currently working at Kaiser Permanente in South Sacramento. She is active in the local Sacrament Oncology Nursing Chapter. She has an interest in the root cause of disease and continues her education with the Institute of Functional Medicine. She is the owner of Howlett Integrative Cancer Care, found at www.howlettintegrativecancercare.com, where she is able to help patients in other areas of the country get through traditional cancer treatments with an integrative approach.

Progressive muscle relaxation is said to increase your awareness of the sensations associated with tension (and, in turn, help you identify and deal with the physical effects of everyday stress).
And a 2003 study from the journal Psychooncology found that progressive muscle relaxation helped relieve anxiety and improve quality of life among 29 colorectal cancer patients who had recently received surgery. A 2006 study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, meanwhile, showed that progressive muscle relaxation improved quality of life and reduced blood pressure among people with heart disease.

Her work is dedicated to creating trusted relationships and space for the process of narrating one’s story. Therapeutic Art, taught by an Art Therapist, can help us heal the split between our body and mind, our inner experiences and outer experiences. It is an image-based process which is perfect for times when it is hard to put thoughts and feelings into words. Making art with others on a similar journey can provide much needed relief.
Lindsay graduated with her MA from Notre Dame de Namur University for both Marriage Family Therapy and Art Therapy, after having received her BA from San Francisco State University in Child & Adolescent Development, Youth & Family Services. Traditional talk therapy combined with art therapy is the primary focus of her work, utilizing Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Problem-Solution Focused, and Family System theories.
