Do believe that one song can truly support you on your mental health journey? This episode will show you that it is possible and true. I invited Joseph to share his story on today’s episode, which dives straight into his mental health journey. He talks about his personal experiences through which he put together his own toolkit and how music plays its part in all of it. And of course, I asked how music played a part on his own health journey, how he uses it and why, plus what band had a massive impact on him…and he might have thrown a little challenge in there for me! Benefits of using music to help with emotional eating, with Niki Sibera
On today’s episode I chat to Niki Sibera, a Food Freedom Architect and founder of Happy Hearted Eating. Niki is a wonderfully calm and centred lady, who had her fair share of trauma to work through, which she did amazingly well. Now she is passionate about using all she has experienced, lived through both in her private life as well as through her work in the health care sector, to support and empower other women to NOT use food as a mask for what really is going on - or as Niki says, ‘listen to the whispers from the pantry and the fridge’. This is a great conversation around food, healing through music and of course we cover which artists have helped her along the way to process all that had been going on in her life. Find out more about Niki: As a young 52-year-old woman, she is pivoting from a 6-figure corporate career in health care leadership, using the heart healing work she has done over 30 years to transform her traumatic childhood experiences, into being a fierce guide and mentor for women who are ready for Happy Hearted Eating Now she is on a mission to walk alongside women to stop finding herself holding open the door of the fridge or cupboard, feeling miserable because she can’t seem to help herself. Thinking she’s all alone, that she’s a total failure and wondering why the hell she can’t seem to pull herself together. In the work that we do together, we explore what’s behind the eating, to see how her own trauma monster has taken over her heart and taken over how she copes. He has learned to be compassionate with her trauma monster and would like to show other women how to do that too so that the cupboard and fridge doors stay closed while the heart opens wide and we get to Happy Hearted Eating! We can’t diet our way out of ‘stress eating’. So rather than focus on what you are eating, together we focus on what’s eating you. She leads with her heart so she can make sure the people around her know that she cares deeply, including her clients. She asks heart-focused questions so the heart can shine through – and then she gives a hug after. She helps others grow by creating a safe place – even people in the grocery store line up end up telling her incredibly personal things. They know they are safe with her and that she sees the beautiful person they are, even when they feel fucked up. She has a magical way of seeing right into people’s hearts. People feel seen, heard and understood when they are around Niki. She wants all women to feel free – to learn how to tame the whispers from the fridge. To not feel alone and desperate. To not feel ashamed anymore. Learn to flip that switch and feel so sparkly on the inside that you shine!! Let’s all get our Happy Hearting Eating on!! In this episode we cover: · What made her walk away from her corporate job · What traumas she experience in the past and what music supported her in her healing journey · Why music is medicine in her eyes · Why businesses should integrate music much, much more in their every day work life · Her final words before we wrap up the episode Connect with Niki: FB: niki.sibera FB Group for women only who are looking for help with their stress/emotional eating: happyheartedeating LIKED THE EPISODE? You’re the Voice – Birthday month reflection
I am back with a solo episode to end my birthday month celebration. In this episode I start with reflecting on having two guest speakers join my Facebook group community and share around freeing your voice and use it through advocacy. Music can truly allow us to find our voice. Sometimes we do need a bit of support with the ‘how’, and that is where collaboration comes in. Which my guest speakers Elisa S. Keeler and Rachelle Babler have done so beautifully. I am beyond grateful for them to share their knowledge. If you would like to check out one or both presentations, you can do so in my FB Group or message me for the replay link. Then I talk about the changes this month has triggered in me and what that means moving forward with Living on the B Side. During this solo episode I cover: · Reflection on my birthday month · Guest speaker’s takeaways for me · Why I chose collaboration again · Some changes for LOTBS after this month

How the loss of a loved one combined music & coaching | Featuring Eric Bauberger
In today’s episode I chat with Eric Bauberg, a Holistic Life Coach and Motivational Entertainer who works with people one-on-one as well as in groups through his workshops. Eric’s story is a sad yet fascinating one, where surrender plays a massive part in. If he did not learn to surrender, then the tragic death of his beloved sister could have had a different outcome. Yet, through being able to surrender he connected deeper with his sister and this enabled him to finally step up and into the person he is today. Listen to this incredible interview to gain insight into how to deal with a terrible loss of a loved one that turned into a journey where music and coaching come together and inspire others towards their greatest self. A bit about Eric’s work: In his one-on-one coaching, he guides self-aware individuals to tune their minds and their bodies, so that they could create more ease and flow as they move towards their greatest self. When Ben is hosting workshops, he tries to teach certain principles, certain tools, while telling his own story and infusing his own original music in there to really influence the energy, but also to really ground the message of what he is trying to say and where it has brought him in life. During chat we cover: · Eric’s life up until the moment that changed his life forever · What he calls the ‘gift of tragedy’ · Why he felt he led a double-life · Moment of his sisters’ passing & what surrendering has to do with it · How music played a particularly big part in this tragic phase of his life · The message he now shares with others around spirituality & music · Examples of how he moved from ‘fear to fuel’ as a musician Connect with Eric Bauberger Website: https://ezenflow.com/ FB: https://www.facebook.com/eric.john981/ IG https://www.instagram.com/baubergereric/ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/32wwOgI9Cin7DvZmiSWJpw?si=W7OpMrHfR-Cq1AuJjRNnGQ Connect with me: My FB group: https://bit.ly/LOTBSFBCommunity My email list: https://bit.ly/LOTBSEmailCommunity IG & FB: @livingonthebside

Can a song show us how we have evolved?
Have you ever thought about how the meaning of music, or more specifically a song can change for us over time? In this episode I share my thoughts on this question as well as an exercise that you can do very easily that can answer this question. Come and take 10 minutes out of your day and let’s spend some time together, on the B Side of life. On today’s episode: · My reason/inspiration for creating this episode · How to use music to find proof that you are making progress · Simple exercise that you can do to see this for yourself · Example how I used it for myself with a specific genre of music Connect with me more, join one or all of the below. Do you ever feel numb?
This time on my Podcast I share with you how 'Numb’ by Linkin Park presented itself to me at the right time and allowed me to recognise how I currently feel. Yes, as you can guess, it is numb! This must be one of the most annoying and hardest emotions to break through, yet there are small steps we can take to move away from it and back into a happier us. I hope this episode makes you feel less alone if you are in that space, too and inspires you to hit ‘play’ on songs that help you feel better. During this episode I share with you: · A little bit about the actual song itself · The reasons how I ended up feeling this way · What I started to do to change this feeling and move into a happier place Do you or have you felt ‘numb’ before? I would love to hear your experiences and how you moved out of this. Is it healthy to ‘turn back time’ & revisit certain moments in our life?
Do you remember the song ‘Turn back time’ by Aqua? It is the title song for the movie ‘Sliding Doors’ with Gwyneth Paltrow. The movie centres around one woman, played by Gwyneth, and two storylines, showing two paths her life could take depending on whether she catches a Tube on the London Underground or not (hence the 'sliding door' title). This song got me thinking about how often we might have ‘sliding door’ moments, what we can learn from them and how to not get stuck in the loop of revisiting those moments. Join me whilst I ponder this question centred around this song (and movie) and let me know your thoughts on it. Main points on today’s episodes are: · 1:27 What the movie ‘Sliding Doors’ is about · 3:30 Why learning to make a healthy decision that is good for us is important · 6:30 How music can assist us with healing from those ‘sliding door’ moments Connect with me My FB group > https://bit.ly/LOTBSFBCommunity My email list > https://bit.ly/LOTBSEmailCommunity IG & FB: @livingonthebside

A new year, a new theme song & word!
In this first solo episode of 2022 of the Living on the B Side Podcast my focus is on my picked theme song & word. I do a little review on last years’ choices and how that worked out for me, using this process instead of goals. Also, I provide a few examples on what went well by using this method and how it made me feel overall. Then I reveal my choices for 2022, how I picked them and why I decided to go with these choices. In essence I feel us quiet and introverted humans should and can shine more brightly and these fit in nicely with my vision overall for this year. Next up I share with you my tips on how you can pick your own theme song (and word), these are simple ways to connect with how you want to feel and be. And hopefully allow you to feel happier with yourself and achieve more of what you want in life. Using a theme song is a gentle and fun way to align yourself not only with your values but also overall vision in a way that doesn’t feel forced or tense. In this episode of the Living on the B Side Podcast I talk about: · Review of my 2021 theme song & word (1:00) · 2022 theme song & word (04:10) · How you can pick your own song and/or word (08:34) Birgit’s Words of Wisdom: “Having my theme song in my head, knowing that this is my theme song, I can fall back onto that and really push through mental and physical pain” “The world needs more of us quiet and introverted humans to shine the light to brighten up this world, to allow people to see us” “We have this gentleness to create better energy on this planet, better surroundings for the people that we love and care about” Connect with me www.livingonthebside.com Join my FB Group for introverted & quiet humans: https://bit.ly/LOTBSFBCommunity Let’s stay in touch via email: https://bit.ly/LOTBSEmailCommunity

Business owner of a Branding Design & Printing company & Piano Teacher, chat with Michelle Hessing
In this episode I welcome Michelle Hessing ‘to the microphone’, who is a quiet business owner of a Branding Design & Printing company based in Newcastle, NSW and specialises in an integrated approach to creating and designing branded material and collateral to bring products and services into the marketplace. Designing for marketing, packaging, social media, presentations and documentation and printing - to promote and sell products and services locally and globally. She took up learning to play piano at the age of 41 after years of thinking she wasn't smart enough to learn to play. She is teaching piano as well but currently her piano studio is in mothballs while her branding and printing business is the main focus. During our chat with cover her approach to capturing the ideas of her clients (talk about imagination ability!) and to how she currently works on a piano piece for her father, who sadly has passed away. Michelle also shares her experience that led her almost to give up on her dream of playing the piano, how she found a way to make it happen and why she believes anyone can play an instrument. She says: “I feel that every rough patch, big event, significant moments are attached to certain songs and sounds that trigger the memory surrounding that moment. Then for some reason I started to listen to music differently. Not just about remembering the words and shaking my thang and working out dance moves but really listening.” Tune in to listen to the whole conversation – it is worth it! Chat with Nat Part 2 | It's all about the Boys in the Band - NKOTB
I have invited Nat back to my Podcast so we can go down memory lane about our joint love for the New Kids On the Block. We have met through them back in 2012 and have stayed really good friends ever since. Plus we have found out how much of a positive impact Donnie, Jordan, Joe, Danny and Jonathan had on us growing, we decided to hop on again and share with you all about this amazing band! Boybands seem to have get a bad rap, so we are trying to highlight the good (and right) stuff NKOTB has done for us and our lives. Through their upbeat and positive pop music to the people we have met along the way, all this has definitely had a massive impact on us and helped to shape us into who we are today. Do you have a deep and crazy love for a boyband? Or any other artist or band? I would love to hear all about it. Leave a comment below or send me a message. Let's chill & reflect a little to Miami Vice's 'Crockett's Theme' song
In today's episode I am going way back to the mid 1980's and the hit TV show Miami Vice and the song 'Crockett's Theme' composed by Jan Hammer. The song refers to one of the main characters James "Sonny" Crockett played by Don Johnson and was aired in the first episode in October 1984. Listening to this song brings back a huge flash of emotions: hope, excitement, flow as well as pondering, reflection. But not only that - it's also about the evolution of music and fashion. So many new things came out of this TV show, especially the music, including this song, have left a huge imprint on me. I share my thoughts around this song and what I am taking away from it, apart from what I have mentioned above, and I suggest a way to use it as a tool to do some soul-digging. If you have a memory or experience to share to this song, please message me, I would love to hear about out. Self-love is talked about so much yet not practiced enough. Over the last couple of weeks I have dived into my own journey of self-love and what I discovered is a bit sad and disappointing but also a great place for me to make changes. Are you loving yourself enough? If you said yes, how do you show yourself that love? What do you do on a daily basis to make yourself feel loved and valued? In this episode I share my thoughts around this topic and why we need to dive into ourselves first before wanting to 'love the world'. During this episode I mention the amazing Lisa Carpenter, who was one of three expert coaches in a recent Mastermind I was part of. Definitely go and check her and her work out - she is amazing! What songs would you put on your self-love playlist? Below are my two suggestions, send me yours - I would love to add them to my own one. Hailee Steinfeld - Love Myself Meghan Trainor - Me Too Thanks for checking out this episode, why not come over and share your take-aways in my FB Group community ? I had the pleasure to welcome Emilie Lundberg to my Living on the Side Podcast and talk all things music and kids and families. Emilie has a passion for helping parents and their kids connect and become closer by using her Music Adventure Box and hence create a stronger bond as a family unit. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a dual degree in Elementary Music Education – with an emphasis on Early Childhood Music. Emilie is Kodaly-certified and loves using the Kodaly-method as her structure with Dalcrose, Orff, and other methodologies mixed in to her teaching! She taught in the Provo school district for 5 years, teaching general music education to Kindergarten-6th grade students, while also serving as the Special Needs Music Specialist for the district. You Gotta BE
In this solo episode it’s about who we can and need to BE to create the best life ever. Inspired by Des'ree’s song ‘You gotta be’, I chat about why I believe it is a crucial time for all of us to think and moodle about this more as well as the impact each and every one of us can create by stepping in our best BEing. Based on these lyrics from the song: ‘’Time asks no questions, it goes on without you Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace The world keeps on spinning Can't stop it if you tried to The best part is danger staring you in the face, oh’’ I share my view on what stepping into being more of ‘us’ means and what it can achieve and also why I believe it is so important right now. Latin American Studies Lecturer & a Culture Advocate, chat with Kim Kendall de Silva
I am back after a short break with a brand new guest interview to kick things off! In today’s episode I am joined by Kim Kendall de Silva, who is a Lecturer in Latin American Studies and basic Spanish by trade and a culture advocate by passion. Her mission is to empower the culturally inquisitive beginner Spanish language learner. Kim believes that cultural empathy will heal the world and that if we all had more cultural empathy and more understanding of where one another is coming from, if we could just kind of see beyond how we feel about something and understand why somebody feels a different way, then that alone would go a long way into healing all of these risks and all of this pain and all of this suffering and all of this divisions in our world. She lives in Trinidad and Tobago with her husband. Their three sons have no clue she’s been secretly teaching them Spanish through music! I loved our chat about specifically that music can be an ice breaker to get to know each other and our cultures better. Listen to this whole episode right now and let us know what you think. Kim is running a 5 day language challenge ‘Loving Your Spanish’, starting 2 August 2021, the ultimate challenge experience taking beginner Spanish learners from intimidated to loving and excited to use the language! You don't even know me
How often do you think to yourself ‘you don’t know me’ when someone judges or criticises you? Or maybe you even asked this about yourself?! This song by Armand van Helden came out in 1999, when I lived in London on my own and had to navigate life away from home and learn to live in a different country. On many occasions, I probably got judged, yet people did not know me and why I did what I did. This song was and still is a reminder that no matter what I do in life, there will be judgement yet it doesn’t mean I do anything wrong or should act differently. This message came through again whilst I going through a 30 day Inspirational coaching call program this month. Run by a coaching friend of mine, his intention is to help us develop a mindset that is all about taking responsibility and ownership of our life, become better at the ‘mindset game’ and step into better versions of ourselves. So far it has been eye opening and I already made some shifts that are amazing and I am truly grateful for this experience that allows me to show more compassion and understanding towards myself and others. I am sharing more about this 30 day journey in this week’s episode. Come over and join my my FB Group community. Follow me on Instagram or Facebook for more snippets and inspiration. Chat with Nat | Hub Productions Talent Handler, Guest Liaison & sometimes MC | Sublime Talent Rep
Nat is Hub Productions Talent Handler, Guest Liaison & sometimes MC and Sublime Talent Rep, who works at ComiCon Conventions as well as other TV Show & Movie events, using her organizational and people talents to look after a wide range of talent, including actors, writers and other creative minds in that area. Her love for all things Music and beyond started after being given a Lepa Brena album on cassette and her grandma would her play the album on the huge stereo system in their loungeroom where they would dance together to the songs. These moments are very special and helped Nat form the respect and love she has for her culture’s music. Through this early experience of Music and how it can create amazing memories, she went on to create more wonderful moments related to and with Music. We talk about one particular one related to Ricky Martin and how many unexpected moments have come about, which shows that it isn’t always one-sided in how memories/experience get made and felt. Hold on one more day - When it's time to break some of our chains
Wilson Philip’s song ‘Hold on’ is the inspiration for today’s episode, in which I talk about my super bad day I had this week, what I believe made it worse and the lessons I learned from it all. Do you often give into your limiting beliefs and fears and end up with your day being run by those? Maybe you even feel like having chains around your hands that hold you back from being happier and in control of our life? Our personal fears in life can really paralyse us, yet the only person who can break those chains is, you guessed it, is you! Maybe it’s time to identify why you are holding yourself back and start to make small and consistent changes. AND don’t forget to play this song to keep you inspired to move towards those changes. Let Music help you learn a language
Music has many benefits when learning a new language, and today I am sharing how I used it to learn English. From sitting at my desk in my room, with pen and paper and a dictionary to end up passing my Cambridge Advance English test when I was 18 back in Switzerland, music has been there by my side and supported me in achieving this goal. Be courageous to show your True Colours
In this episode of my music storytelling Podcast, I share why I believe gently stretching ourselves and opening up to someone / our closer community can help us so much when we feel the world is overwhelming. Or when we feel undeserving and loose our self-believe. Inspired by Cyndi Lauper’s song ‘True Colours’, I am talking about how I dealt with my low mood by reaching out to my close-knit community of introverts and it made me feel so much better. By also quoting some of the lyrics to this song, I hope to inspire you to dig into yourself and reveal your amazing true colours and realise that we all contribute to make the world a better, more sparkling place. How important is Music (to you)?
On my journey to dig a little deeper into why music is so important to us humans and the reasons behind this, I started to ask myself questions. And this one is the first one. Not only have I myself pondered on this, but also put the question in my Facebook Group Community and their answers were amazing and beautiful. I will share some of them in this episode as well as my answers, which I hope inspires you to do the same - ask the question and find meaningful answers. I also hope that thinking about this means you can make music a more integrated part of your daily life and enrich it for the better. How my Mum influenced & nourished my love of Music
It's time to mention one of the most important human in my life - my mum! Without her gentle and at times invisible guidance when it comes to music, I don't think I would have experienced or get to love music as much as I do today. In this episode I reminisce a little on how she has shape my music journey and what we have experienced together. From the early age to my teenage years to now, music without my mum wouldn't be the same. It's a different kind of Mother's Day gift, especially since I am half way around the world away from her (I am in Australia, she is in Switzerland) and I wanted to express my appreciation for her, so the world knows what a special woman my mum is. How music has helped me get through an MRI scan
Have you ever found yourself in a situation that is new to you? One that can make you nervous and maybe even anxious? That's how it was for me a few weeks back when I had to go 'in the tube' for a back scan. In this rather unusual setting, I was able to use the power of music to help me with my mindset and new experience without freaking out too much. Often times we don't think about using music in this way and in this episode I share what I did and hopefully it can inspire you to try out this tip as well. 'Unwritten' - Every day is a chance to 'write' your life better
I have chosen the song 'Unwritten' by Natasha Bedingfield for this episode, because I love how she created lyrics to encourage us look at our life as a book full of blank pages. We can choose how to fill these pages - loving, exciting encouraging and positive or the opposite. It's our choice and I believe through writing we can explore all facets of ourselves and then re-write how we spend out days, weeks, months...our whole life! I also provide some ideas for those of you who want to start to write in a journal, but are unsure how to start and what to write about. Come and join me as we explore how 'Unwritten' can support us in making daily changes to our 'book of life'.

Destination Unknown - when the road ahead looks a little foggy
This song always helps me refocus and put things in perspective when I am not sure where I am headed in life. 'Destination' Unknown is from the official Top Gun Movie soundtrack and has been on my favourite song playlist for years. During this episode I will pick out a few sentences from this song and hopefully inspire you to look at your life and challenges a bit different, maybe even with new enthusiasm and confidence that your life's journey can be fun and good - even without knowing exactly where you are going. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, sometimes it is a dim light and other times it is almost as blinding as the sun. Please give this song a listen and hopefully it can brighten your day.

How a theme song & word for 2021 help me focus
We all know New Year's Resolutions and let's be honest, how many of you actually stick to them? How about selecting a theme song & word for 2021?! It's a simple and different way to achieve probably more with more ease. In this episode, I go through what this is all about, how you can find yours and what mine are. (And a heads up, it is 2021 and not 2020 as I refer to a few times. I am very excited to talk about this, so a few small slips are okay, right?!)

Let me officially introduce myself
In this episode I am sharing who I am, where I am originally from (here’s a hint and say hello to ‘Heidi’, cows and yummie chocolate!) and where I have spent my time living so far. I also share the story about how my passion project ‘Living on the B Side’ has come into existence, why Music is my ‘red thread’ in life, how I have come up with the name and why it is perfect to me. Then I talk about what to expect in future episodes, solo and guest interviews. Plus, why I believe music is a big part of our healing process, as individuals and as a community. Join me so we can get to know each other much better and start to make a change in our life as well as others, one song at a time.

How she found her dream job through listening to one song, chat with Hilde
Rock music has been there for Hilde since she was 13 and she discovered the music of Kiss and later on AC/DC and Iron Maiden. Many bands came and left until she saw GOTTHARD on MTV with 'All I Care For' on July 31st 1992. She was blown away! Their music and the amazing voice of STEVE LEE was life changing….as he was. Ever since that day she dreamed of working for them. The first dream came true when Hilde was asked by their management to start the Fanclub in Belgium in 1994. For 15 years she did volunteer work with translations, reports and reviews for the Official Fanclub until her big dream came true and she could take over their Official International Fanclub professionally in 2009. Since then she has added MAD MAX and PICTURE to her RockDreams Agency business, where she supports bands with their fanclub, promotions and merchandise needs. Her main driver for doing what she does is and always will be the passion for the band’s music.
